About Dr. Stanley Shih
Dr. Shih’s practice focuses on the improvement and maintenance of his patients’ oral health. He takes a particular interest in preserving and restoring the function and form of his patient’s smiles. To this end, he focuses on strategies to prevent dental disease and stays abreast of current technologies to help diagnose, educate and treat his patients. He is a proponent of the latest CAD/CAM technologies which confer fine esthetics in addition to strength, durability, and precision which benefit the patient’s oral health and function. Dr. Stan Shih is a general dentist who graduated from the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine in 2003. He completed his general practice residency at Long Island College Hospital (Brooklyn Heights, NY) in 2004. He has practiced as an associate in the New York metropolitan area and has served as the Dental Director at Heritage Health Care Center in New York City. He is presently a consulting attending for Lutheran Medical Center’s AEGD program which trains future dentists. Dr. Stan Shih resided in Pittsburgh, Orlando, and Albany (NY) before attending the University at Buffalo where he received his bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree. He was strongly influenced by his late father (a mechanical enigneer), his mother (a former fashion designer), and family dentists (Dr. Juan Amaya and Dr. Bettina Pels-Wetzel) who provided him with expert and compassionate dental care. His spare time is entirely consumed by cooking, playing with his kids, pondering global economics and wrestling with computer problems. Sometimes simultaneously.

I highly recommend Dr. Shih. His bedside manner is unmatched (including both doctors and dentists here). Any questions you have, he takes his time to answer them thoroughly and make sure you understand. He is physically gentle when working with instruments in your mouth and frequently checks in and asks if you're doing okay. Best of all, he didn't try to sell me a bunch of things / scare me into thinking my whole mouth is going to fall apart and that I better get 12 fillings and a root canal ASAP. He treats you like a human. Nice conversation and didn't feel rushed. Awesome guy. Thanks, Dr. Shih.

From walking in to walking out everything was great. They were very professional and polite and the work that I had done was amazing. Very thorough & explained everything as work was being done. After trying to find a new dentist after bad experiences elsewhere, I finally found the place I will be returning to in the future! They were also very honest with prices and my options.

I'd been looking for a "good" new dentist who actually cared of my oral health (not my pockets) for a while and am soo glad I took the leap with this doctor... Friendly staff and a very informative and thorough Dr. Shih. Would highly recommend this practice to anyone looking for an awesome dentist!

The initial visit/consultation was pleasant enough for me to return for the procedure. The 2nd visit, he initially was calm, but his frustration with my daughter became apparent when she was very anxious about needles and the whole procedure. It was a nightmare hearing him talk to her the way he did. He tried to be firm and then soft, then firm again, and then sounded outright mean; he states he wants his patients to trust him which is nice but this is a 6 year old girl that was terrified of needles. We returned a third time for an unexpected extraction of an abscessed tooth that they eventually could not perform because she was so anxious and squirming. He basically implied to me that he could not continue, and asked if I wanted to refuse treatment. So of course, I did; why would I want a dentist to perform a procedure when he clearly did not want to? I was already turned off and wanted to get my daughter out of his chair ASAP. His staff is pleasant enough but the office does not have a family/welcoming atmosphere.
We went to another dentist the same day as an emergency and successfully removed the tooth, albeit she had to be restrained in a papoose, but it was over quickly.

Dr. Stanley was informative, professional and as caring as can be. I procrastinated a root canal that I needed (by a year!) and now I need an extraction and I have asked for an implant to be put in. Not once did Dr. Stanley ever make me feel a certain way for not having the root canal done. But gave me clear consult of what needs to be done and how it is going to be done. His hygienist Catherine is sweet and warm and his receptionist Latoya is also very sweet. It's going to be an interesting ride going through the process of having an extraction and implant put in. But that least I have the peace of mind and confidence in Dr. Stanley and Dr. Amy's office.

The x-ray taking was so painful. The lady seemed to be new(not sure, this is an assumption based on my experience). She had to call someone every now and then while taking x-rays. She also took the same x-rays repeatedly. The whole experience was painful and it seemed that I was being treated by someone who doesn't know the whole process. In addition, calling someone (opening doors with the gloves on) and continuing to take x-rays and teeth cleaning (with those same gloves) does raise cleanliness question. But the Doctor was knowledgeable and informative.

Dr. Stanley Shih is AWESOME! I loved the fact that he is hands on in the front office also. He takes charge. He LISTENS and answers all questions with clarity. I will definitely be sending my daughter and boyfriend to see him. Dr. Shih is just what the doctor ordered. Lol
