Getting to know Adam Mikiewicz
I have many years of experience treating anxiety, depression, psychosis, ADHD, substance use, and ABI/TBI in a variety of settings, including inpatient, outpatient, group home, and correctional facilities. I am also able to certify patients for medical marijuana. Please feel free to contact me to discuss your needs and allow me the opportunity to see if I can help you. I am currently in-network with Cigna and Aetna, but self-pay options are always available. If I don’t accept your insurance, I can provide a superbill that your insurance might reimburse for a portion of your visit.
Regarding stimulant medications, with the frequent shortages of ADHD medications at pharmacies, I am willing to be patient and do not impose extra fees for rerouting stimulant prescriptions to a different pharmacy. For patients who are stable, I usually require visits once every three months for these medications.
Overall, for stable patients, I typically schedule visits every three months between medication refills. I offer evening and weekend hours, and in-home visits for disabled or homebound patients are available for an additional fee.
I earned my Master’s in Psychiatric Nursing from the University of Saint Joseph. For the past seven years, I have worked at the largest adult psychiatric hospital in Connecticut, treating some of the most treatment-resistant and challenging cases in psychiatry. This work requires exceptional patience and a methodical treatment approach, which I believe can benefit others.
Listening, caring, compassion, and attention to detail are qualities I believe every sound mental health provider should possess to best support those struggling with mental health issues. What should a new client know about working with you?
I pride myself on prompt service - no excuses, just responsive and professional services. You will gain access to my cell phone where you will have direct access to me for emergencies or urgent matters. It pains me to hear about patients receiving what I would consider suboptimal patient care service (i.e. "my provider didn't get back to me for four days;" "my provider would disappear for weeks at a time;" "it takes an act of Congress to get in touch with my provider for a simple question;" "my provider just seems to not care and is detached.") and provides me with excellent examples and reminders of how *not* to treat patients. It's been my personal mission statement to treat you, my patient, with the respect and dignity that you deserve.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
At the initial evaluation appointment, we will spend time examining every pertinent areas of mental health and screening for:

At the end of the evaluation, I will have a collaborative discussion with you about what is important, and not as important to you. I present options for you to consider in a non-pressured manner - choosing to opt to accept mental health medication is a very nuanced, and individualized process that varies greatly from person to person. I will be transparent about the potential advantages and disadvantages about each medication. For example, many patients do not wish to take a medicine that has the potential for weight gain or a significant level of sedation - I will be receptive to your preferences and we can discuss options that avoid those qualities. I avoid using a "cookie cutter" approach to psychiatry - we are all unique, dynamic creatures that have needs that change over time as we get older.

If you do have an insurance that I don't accept and choose to entrust your mental health care with me on a self-pay basis, I absolutely understand. I will not have any resentment or problem with your decision seek another mental health provider that is within your insurance network once you and I find a medication regimen that stabilizes your mental health condition. It would be my honor and privilege to help you along any stage of your journey towards mental health wellness.
