About Dr. Alexander Abkin

Dr. Alexander Abkin is a highly experienced bariatric surgeon and a board-certified general surgeon. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from Saint Petersburg Pavlov State Medical University and completed a Fellowship in Bariatric Surgery at Northwestern State Medical University. Under his leadership, the practice has performed over 11,000 bariatric procedures in the past 23 years. Procedures currently performed include Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy, Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass, Adjustable Gastric Banding, Revisional Bariatric Surgery, and Anti-Reflux (GERD) Surgery. Dr. Abkin is a Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) and a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES). He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and has been recognized as a Center of Excellence Physician by the American College of Surgeons. He was the first surgeon on the East Coast to offer Single Incision Gastric Bypass in 2009 and the first in the Northeast to implement the REALIZE™ Band procedure in 2007. Additionally, he was among the first surgeons in the state to insert the ReShape Intragastric Balloon. Dr. Abkin has been honored by his medical colleagues as a “Top Doctor” in NJ Magazine every year since 2007.
