Alexis Ryan is a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner with a Master's in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing from Vanderbilt University's No. 1 ranked program in the country. She combines expertise and evidence-based approaches to care with an unflagging commitment to compassion and kindness to treat a variety of psychiatric disorders, with particular proficiency in mood disorders, trauma-related disorders, substance use disorders, and eating disorders. Alexis utilizes psychotherapy, creates treatment plans, prescribes clinically supported medications, and provides diagnostic clarity and education. She strives for each of her clients to feel empowered by their mental healthcare experience. Alexis loves collaborating and forging relationships with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds and endeavors to offer an accepting and therapeutic space for every patient, including those in the LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities.
What should a new client know about working with you?
We do not prescribe controlled substances out of our office. Commonly requested controlled substance prescriptions from psychiatrists include:
Stimulants: amphetamines, Vyvanse, Adderall, Ritalin
Benzodiazepines: Xanax (alprazolam), Klonopin (clonazepam), Valium (diazepam), Ativan (lorazepam)
Opioids: Suboxone (opioid replacement)
Nerve pain: Gabapentin, Lyrica (state specific for whether we can prescribe)
We can explore other, safer alternatives as part of your treatment regimen. And we are able to help coordinate your care with outside providers as desired, such as primary care physicians. If you have specific prescriptions you are interested in obtaining and are unsure if they are controlled substances, please give us a call.

Alexis is very easy to talk to - full of enthusiasm, compassion, and empathy. She listens very well and asks great questions - really allowing her patients to open up. You feel like you're speaking to a trusted friend who really cares about your well being. Alexis also doesn't push medication management and plans immediately. She strives to really get to know you and all the intricacies of your current situation. If that takes more than 1 session, she's very willing to accommodate to reach the best possible outcome.

I had a very good experience. I've been treated for depression for nearly 30 years, the last 22 by the same person. We moved in October and one of the things I dreaded was going through the process of starting over with someone new. However, Dr. Ryan was genuinely interested in me, caring and empathetic. So, I have had quite a few experiences with mental health providers and many of them have been subpar at best; but, after having my consultation with Alexis, I don't think I'll be experiencing any more lackluster appointments. She not only heard me, but listened to understand, not to just respond off the top of her head. Whenever I would talk she would empathize with me and ask follow-up questions that allowed me to examine the emotions I was discussing. Additionally, while we talked about medication, she didn't make me feel like I was being forced to change anything about my current medication regimen. We already have more appointments scheduled and I am very excited to talk to her again, Can't recommend her enough!
