Wait Time

When I arrived, I asked to be seen on time because I always have to wait (yes, always). I needed to get to work for a meeting. The nurse called me back about five minutes after my appointment time, took my vitals and asked how I was feeling. I still waited 35-40 minutes for the doctor to come in and see me. This practice needs to understand that a patient's time is just as important as the physician's time. If you schedule so many patients at the same time that they have to wait 35-40 minutes to see the doctor, something needs to change. If I was 35-40 minutes late to my doctor appointment, they would probably tell me to reschedule. I've mentioned this before; is anyone actually reading and considering these comments? Needless to say, I was late to work and my meeting. That was embarrassing.

Dr. Arabshahi uses a lot of "medical speak" when he explains things (he tells the patient as he's dictating to his assistant). I have a medical background so I understand most of it, but I imagine most of his patients probably do not understand a lot of what he says. I'd prefer he use layman's terms with me, as a patient, so I don't have to ask so many questions for clarification. The doctor is very nice and I like his bedside manner. The wait times are horrendous! For my first appointment, I waited more than 30 minutes. My second appointment was fine. For my third, while I was taken right away for allergy testing, it finished earlier than anticipated. My next procedure was an hour later, and I had to wait in the lobby for that full hour PLUS another 20 minutes. I could have gone home and come back! Also, the tech had to leave the room 2-3 times to get supplies that should have already been set up in the room for my procedure. If a patient was 20-60 minutes late for an appointment, I'm sure it would not go over well at all. I hope the staff will work on reducing wait times completely, or to only a few minutes at best. If I didn't have so much already invested in this practice, I would go somewhere else based on the wait times alone.

Quick and easy check in with almost immediate call in for B/P, O2 levels and brief synopsis of health since the last visit. After a brief wait, the audiologist called me in for the testing. Then a very brief wait to meet with the doctor for a reading of the results and plan of treatment. For a two-part appointment, I was in and out very quickly. The people here, by the way, have a gracious and friendly manner. And Dr. A is outstanding in his relationship with patients and quality of care.

Great physician! Very personable. Spoke to you not at you! Ensured you understood his assessment, test results and recommendations. His office staff could be more professional. Much personal talk and/or complaints in presence of patients. But since this is about him. If about staff wouldn't rated as high.

I recently moved to Dumfries and I was recommended to him and I have decided to keep him as permanent ENT. The staff at front the desk and in the consulting room were A +++ the followed up with me on the phone to make sure I made it safe home. What VIP service thank you and God bless all of you

I love this MD. He is great with all of his patients. The only thing I would change is when a patient walks through the door everyone at the front desk should greet that person. I was an office manager and my staff always did so, it makes a better look for the MD's

My wife and I are both being treated by Dr. Arabshahi. I have found him to be knowledgeable, patient and thorough. I would personally like to continue to see him for ENT issues and concerns. In contrast to him, the support staff in the Lake Ridge office I would have to classify as bumbling, incompetent and some have a very unprofessional demeanor. It starts at the receptionist desk. Each time I have been there both the young man and young lady were nice personally, but bumbled in trying to check folks in. We had problems with the scheduling of orders for my wife - orders scheduled on the same day that should have been scheduled two days apart. Attempts to contact the doctor were futile when a problem occurred. Messages left on the "nurse line" were never answered or the voice mailbox was full. Today I made an appointment for myself and my wife on line. Later my wife receives a call saying her appointment had to be rescheduled because the office was overbooked. Although I noted online the reason for her appointment, that was apparently overlooked, and the caller did not inquire as to the nature of the appointment. This was a critical appointment based upon the results of a biopsy. In trying to sort through this, I had to go through two employees who were focused on talking versus listening. One sniffed and coughed into the phone constantly. The support staff is so bad I can envision patients not returning even when the medical care is great. In addition to Dr. Arabshahi being a bright spot, Nurse Sharon is also. She tries very hard. Garry T.

I was impressed with Dr.Arabshahi. He took time to listen to my concerns and I felt I was in competent hands. The office called me with test results before my scheduled appointment, that was very important to me, as in other cases, I had to call for the results etc.. Dr. A. projects confidence and competence, I will recommend him to others. For our convenience my husband was able to be scheduled at the same time and he had a very positive experience as well. My son is also a patient at the facility. The office staff is courteous and accommodating. Brigitte M. and Richard K.

I absolutely love Dr. Arabshahi, but the wait times are pretty lengthy, even for appointments scheduled way in advance. I have been seeing him for over 7 yrs and will continue to do so because he is fantastic, but if there was one thing I would change it would be the administrative side of the house. Over the last several years the administration has improved, but the practice has grown in popularity so they are ALWAYS very busy so the improvements still don't seem to have caught up with the amount of business they do. Very rarely is the wait time less than 30 minutes beyond your original appointment time. I usually have to schedule appointments for later in the day (after work) so I'm sure that's part of it. I imagine it's probably not that bad in the mornings. I was there recently for an appointment at 4:30pm, finally got called back at about 5:10pm, met with triage nurse for another 20-25 minutes (that part seemed to take way too long), and then finally went back to the exam room. I've had to wait over 30 minutes in the exam room in the past, but fortunately on this day he showed up only about 5 minutes after I got in there. After meeting with him for several minutes and determining I needed medication, the meds had to be prescribed and called into the pharmacy and all of that took about another several minutes. We finally left just before 6pm. So bottom line, you will need to exercise extreme patience if you want to be a patient at Potomac ENT. It's worth the wait because of the quality of service you get, but plan accordingly. Also, most of their office, including the waiting room, is a dead zone for mobile phone service. Would be nice if they installed a signal amplifier or provided free wifi. That would make those waits slightly less painful. :o)
