About Dr. Amishi Desai
Amishi Desai, MD, is a board-certified medical oncologist specializing in lung malignancies. Dr. Desai earned her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from K.J. Somaiya Medical College in India. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Winthrop-University Hospital, where she also pursued a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology and served as Chief Fellow.
At Winthrop-University Hospital, Dr. Desai was part of the Venous Thromboembolism Committee, dedicating herself to developing strategies to reduce the length of stay for patients admitted with venous thromboembolism. Additionally, she was responsible for instructing Winthrop residents in oncology and hematology.
In 2015, Dr. Desai was awarded first prize for her research on venous thromboembolism. The following year, she was appointed Assistant Professor of Medicine in Hematology and Oncology at the State University of New York Medical School.
Dr. Desai is skilled in bone marrow aspiration, biopsies, and lumbar puncture.
Her interests and hobbies include Indian classical dancing (Bharatanatyam) and hiking.

This provider doesn’t spend much time with the patient, I met with nurse practitioner for most of the appointment and the doctor came in for 60 seconds. I had 2 iron infusing and 1 follow up visit and was never seen by the doctor after the initial appointment. The standard of care by doctors is less and less, I have low phosphorous from iron infusion and this doctor’s office is not proactively handling it properly. The post care team is frustrating, very dismissive of my symptoms and not resolving / monitoring low phosphorus properly without my persistence, it’s exhausting and doesn’t doesn’t make me feel confident in their care

Received 3 reminders per day for several days to the point of annoyance. Plus when I arrived I received 15 pages of forms to fill out only to find that several members of office staff ask the same questions and never looked at the forms. I really don't need to fill out useless forms. The process in the office needs to better integrate the information provided on the forms.

The front desk staff, the intake nurse and the doctor were all warm and friendly. Dr. Desai was great and she explained everything so that I could understand and this is rare nowadays with doctors and their office.
