About Dr. Ana Olivero Matos

Dr. Ana Olivero is a board certified pediatrician with over twenty-five years of experience in hospital and community based pediatrics. She received two Pediatric Residency diplomas: the first one from Paulista de Medicina in Sao Paulo, Brazil where Dr. Olivero was granted an academic excellence scholarship; and the second from Stony Brook University Hospital in Long Island, New York. Born in Barahona, Dominican Republic Dr. Olivero attended elementary and High School in Santo Domingo where her family moved seeking higher education and career opportunities. Dr. Olivero graduated with honors at Salome Urena Girls Institute. At an early age it was clear that medicine was her one true calling in life. Dr. Olivero attended Medical School at Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo in Dominican Republic. She graduated in 1985. As a medical student she worked as a Pathology Lab Assistant Professor. After graduating from Medical School she completed a year of medical licensing training at Robert Reid Cabral Children’s Hospital in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. During the same year she was a research member at the Mother Child Health Center under the directorship of Dr. Hugo Mendoza, the father of Dominican Pediatrics. Through Medical School Dr. Olivero was an active participant in weekly medical relief trips to underserved areas, and also during yearly vaccination outreach programs to rural areas in the Dominican Republic. From 1988 to 1991 Dr. Olivero completed her internship and first pediatric residency at Paulista de Medicina in Sao Paulo, Brazil where she received a full international scholarship contest based on academic excellence. When she moved back to her native Dominican Republic for one year, she joined the Department of Health as a Pediatrician in Haina, a small town with a lot of medical and social needs. To further her education Dr. Olivero moved to New York in 1992. From 1995 to 1998 Dr. Olivero completed her internship and residency at Stony Brook University Hospital, Long Island. The following year she was certified by the American Board of Pediatrics. During the period of 1998 through 2002 Dr. Olivero worked as an attending physician in the Pediatrics Emergency Department at North Central Bronx Hospital in Bronx, NY. In 2002 Dr. Olivero joined the Divison of Emergency Medicine at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center as an attending physician in the Pediatric Emergency department. During this time she served as a liaison between families of critically ill Dominican children and tertiary care hospitals in New York City. These families were in need of humanitarian surgical and medical care. Dr. Olivero strongly advocates for these patients, many times under the request of Dr. Juan Tapia Mendoza the founder and Medical director of Pediatrics 2000, a private practice where she also worked as a staff pediatrician in 2002. Dr. Olivero has participated in numerous service trips to the Dominican Republic. When tropical storm Noel hit the Dominican Republic in 2007, Dr. Olivero served as a member of the Disaster Response Task Force from New York Presbyterian Hospital. For more than 15 years, Father David Kearny of Saint Elizabeth church in Washington Heights New York, has successfully organized humanitarian trips providing medical, dental and pharmacy services to hundreds of patients in poor rural communities in the Dominican Republic. For the last four years Dr. Olivero has served as the chief physician on those trips. She is also part of another yearly humanitarian trip to Santiago, Dominican Republic, during which she provides medical and surgical services to rural communities in more than 5 cities. Dr. Olivero is dedicated to improving the lives of children both here in the US and the Dominican Republic and she continues to be an advocate for her patients.

It appears that their system is not connected to Zocdoc. They were completely unaware of my appointment. My rating reflects that, if not for that I would have rated them much higher. ?

This is my second visit to this office and in both occasions the office is short staffed with a very long wait time. After filling out the check in forms online the night before I still had to fill out paper forms because system showed nothing. When dr logged into system to check for my sons immunization records nothing pulled up. When I scheduled this appointment I requested to see a specific Dr and was told I would see her and they scheduled me with who dr Olivero which I don’t believe it’s the dr I saw but I wouldn’t know for sure since the dr we did see did not introduce herself to us.

I love it personally!!! I was with the same pediatrician for a while, I had to get a new one and I completely recommended. Very professional and a great location.

Awful doctor and staff. While she was in the room visiting my son, she was also taking on the phone and went in and out of the room many times. She was not paying attention to him but to her phone instead. Also the staff is horrible. They are moody and disrespectful.
Very friendly and caring!

Her staff was very warm and welcoming. Dr. Olivero took her time to really listen to all of our concerns and made really thoughtful plans and recommendations. My child appreciated the fact that the doctor talked directly to her and in language that she understood. She also appreciated the warmth of the staff.
Very professional. The facility is very clean and the staff makes you feel like family from the first visit with them, from the receptionist to the Medical assistants. The wait time varies but I have understood that at times, there are many sick childs in the rooms. Ive also notice that the doctors do take their time to pay attention to every detail od my child's health, which explains the reason for the wait time (at times, not all the time) They are very understanding when it comes to the walk-ins when patients walk in almost 30 mins before closing time or hours past the actually walkin in time. Aren't open on the weekend but the late days until 7pm does make up for it. Love Ola Pediatrics as a whole overall. Dr. Olivero does have an amazing environment including the stafg
