Getting to know Dr. Ana Vasquez

You deserve care that actually sees you — not just your symptoms. If you're dealing with anxiety, depression, or mood shifts that make daily life harder than it should be, you want someone who listens and treats you as a whole person. Maybe you've tried medication before without results, or maybe this is your first time reaching out. Either way, you want real collaboration, not a rushed appointment. That's how I practice. I'm Ana, a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner with a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Columbia University, where I'm also a PhD candidate focused on mental health equity. Trained at Bellevue Hospital and NewYork-Presbyterian, I bring over a decade of experience across acute, forensic, community, and telepsychiatry settings. I'm bilingual in English and Spanish, with deep roots in culturally responsive care. I provide integrated psychiatric care — comprehensive evaluations, medication management, and psychotherapy — tailored to you. I work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, PTSD, OCD, and more, including cultural, identity, immigration-related stress, and intergenerational trauma. Reaching out can feel vulnerable, especially if past care hasn't met your needs. You don't have to have everything figured out. Just come as you are — let's figure out the next step together.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Your first sessions are all about getting to know you. I'll take time to understand what brought you in, your mental health history, your goals, and what you're hoping to get out of treatment. I'll ask about your background, daily life, and any previous experiences with therapy or medication — what helped, what didn't, and what you'd like to do differently this time. You're welcome to ask me questions too. By the end of our initial sessions, we'll have a clearer picture of what's going on and begin mapping out a treatment plan together. My goal is for you to leave feeling heard and with a sense of direction for next steps.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I start by listening — understanding your experiences, your goals, and what has or hasn't worked for you before. From there, we build a treatment plan together that may include medication, psychotherapy, or both, depending on what fits your needs. I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches, including cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, psychodynamic therapy, and solution-focused techniques, tailoring my methods to each individual. I prioritize open communication and shared decision-making, and I check in regularly to make sure your treatment is working for you. I believe you are the expert on your own life, and my role is to bring clinical expertise to support you in feeling better and reaching your goals.
