Getting to know Dr. Brendan Keany

am a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who works with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, mood disorders, and life stressors. I provide medication management and psychotherapy with a collaborative, evidence-based approach tailored to your needs and goals. My style is straightforward, compassionate, and calming, and I aim to create a judgment-free space where you feel heard, supported, and empowered

What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with me is collaborative, straightforward, and focused on what actually helps. I provide both medication management and psychotherapy, often within the same session, with care tailored to your needs. Some visits are more therapy-focused, some are more medication-focused, and many are a mix of both. My style is calm, supportive, and honest, and I encourage open conversation so you feel comfortable asking questions and speaking up about what is or is not working. You do not need to have everything figured out before your first visit—we will work through it together

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process starts with a real conversation, not a rushed checklist. In the first session, I complete a thorough evaluation to understand your symptoms, history, stressors, patterns, and goals before making treatment decisions. From there, we build a plan together. I provide both medication management and psychotherapy, often within the same session, with care tailored to your needs rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. Follow-up visits focus on progress, medication response, and continued therapeutic work, with adjustments made as needed. My goal is to help you build stability, clarity, and forward momentum over time

I went into the telehealth call expecting it to feel awkward, but it didn’t. Brendan let me talk without steering me into a pre-set script, and they checked in about what I actually wanted to change first. We focused on depression symptoms and daily burnout, and I left with a simple, realistic plan.
This was mostly about panic—what it feels like, what triggers it, and what I do afterward. Brendan helped me map it out without making me feel dramatic. The plan was simple, and I liked that we discussed “what if it gets worse” so I wasn’t left guessing.
I was nervous to discuss PTSD stuff over video, but Brendan paced it really well. They checked in often, and it didn’t feel like I had to relive everything to get help. I came away with grounding tools I can use in the moment when I start spiraling.
I was feeling that seasonal slump and didn’t know if it was “real depression” or just winter. Brendan actually talked through both possibilities without dismissing either one. The plan included small daily changes that felt realistic, not a complete lifestyle overhaul.
I booked for insomnia and my brain racing at night. Brendan didn’t just say “sleep hygiene” and move on—they asked about timing, patterns, and what I’m doing in the hour before bed. We made a plan that felt practical, not preachy.
This visit was mainly about depression creeping back in and how it’s messing with motivation. Brendan explained medication options like a normal human, including what side effects to actually watch for. I appreciated that we set a clear check-in point instead of “see you whenever.”
I have social anxiety and usually overthink every medical appointment. Brendan kept it calm and straightforward and helped me build a step-by-step “exposure” plan that didn’t feel terrifying. When the call ended, I felt like I had direction instead of just reassurance.
For ADHD, this was the first time someone asked me to walk through a normal workday step-by-step. Brendan helped me spot the exact points where I lose momentum and gave me a couple “doable” fixes instead of ten big ones. The telehealth format was smooth and felt weirdly productive.
I’ve been dealing with anxiety for a while, and I honestly wasn’t sure how a telehealth visit would go. But Brendan made it feel easy and normal, like an actual conversation. We came up with a simple plan for panic symptoms, and I left feeling steadier.
I would say that new provider that I have actually listens. It feels like he’s listening to me rather than somebody just not making eye contact doing other things. He was actually very professional and I greatly appreciated and that I would tell them that if they need us Psychiatrist or somebody to talk with to definitely contact Mr. Keany

He simply listened. What meant the most was feeling respected as a person, even when I struggled to explain myself. Dr. Keany helped me understand what was happening in a clear, grounded way and worked with me to create a plan that felt manageable instead of overwhelming. For the first time in a long while, I felt a sense of hope—not because everything suddenly changed, but because I wasn’t carrying it alone anymore.
