Getting to know Dr. Brian Buggie

Dr. Buggie does not participate in any insurance plans as he is an out-of-network provider. Please expect a phone call or email after booking so we can ensure our practice is a good fit for your needs. I am a board-certified, licensed psychiatrist trained to treat adults and older adolescents with a wide range of psychiatric issues, including depression, low self-esteem, anxiety, feelings of inadequacy, mood disturbances, sleeping difficulties, attention problems, relationship issues, and work stress. I earned my Doctor of Medicine from the University of New Mexico and completed my residency at Saint Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center. I work in private practice as well as several psychiatric emergency rooms across NYC. I provide psychiatric evaluations and comprehensive treatment, which may include psychotherapy, cognitive and behavioral therapy, and, when necessary, medications. I strive to use medications sparingly and to stop or reduce them when appropriate. My style is warm, encouraging, empowering, and collaborative with your other treatment providers.

Dr. Buggie made the appointment comfortable and listened to my concerns. He also helped initiate the conversation since I have trouble socializing.

Dr. Brian Buggie was welcoming and kind from the get-go – it becomes obvious quite quickly to any client that he is an experienced medical professional and is ready and willing to provide you with the correct diagnosis and accommodating treatment. Not only is this true, but his communication is extremely clear – if medicine is prescribed, you will leave his office with knowledge regarding the medication's intended and possible side-effects.

Dr. Buggie made my first appointment very easy. He was insightful, candid and informed. I enjoyed the time spent talking with him and look forward to my next session.
    Verified patient
A thoughtful professional who takes the time to know his patient's unique needs and then guides them to solutions to help them in their daily lives. Dr. Buggie is insightful and almost intuitive in his observations to help one through issues and behaviors. Excellent and highly recommended.
10 out of 10. I highly Recommend Doctor Buggie. I have a complicated medical history - both mental and physical - and the doctor was taking over my care from a UK psychiatrist. He is professional, thoughtful, knowledgeable, kind and very genuine in terms of offering the best care and guidance to his patients. I also find that there is BS, he is very down-to-earth and easy to talk to. In addition to being fantastic during our sessions, he always goes above and beyond to be flexible and accommodating for things like rescheduling appointments or ensuring he can fit you in at times that work for you. Dr.Buggie has also ensured I have had letters that I need (for example he referred me to the wonderful psychotherapist who I saw for my service dog) and has gone out of his way to sort out medication that I have needed when I am travelling to England or elsewhere last minute etc. I also appreciate that he remembers things I may have said months ago for example about my dog, about friends, family, if I was feeling unwell last time - little things - as having seen many, many medical professionals I have found the majority of them view you as just a number - but Dr.B views you as a whole person, he doesn't ever talk down to you and can switch between humorous and more serious seamlessly. I have found especially during the pandemic he has been great with virtual appointments, helping me find a medication delivery service so I did not have to go out, and in all sessions in addition to focusing on my specific issues he offers general helpful advice which I appreciate and seriously asks me how I am doing. I have seen many psychiatrists and many medical professionals over the years so I can safely say that Dr.B is one of the good ones! 100% would recommend him and I have been a patient of his for almost 2 years now!

Dr. Buggie is extremely patient, spends a lot of time with you to make sure you are comfortable and he covered everything. He is professional, knowledgeable, sincere, practical and very skilled. I highly recommend him since I had a very informative and beneficial visit.

Dr Buggie is intelligent and caring I have recommended him to people in my circle. His prices are fair and it is easy to get an appointment. He does not work with pharma reps. He helped me by prescribing based on my unique needs and made changes as needed. I did not feel he overprescribed and allowed me to lower my meds and at doses that were still affective.
Dr Buggie was warm but also direct in asking me about stressors in my life. His assessment of my current medications was thoughtful, and he considered other health factors, even recommending an endocrinologist for me. He also checked in to make sure I was able to pick up my new medications. I feel so relieved to have found a good psychiatrist.

A fantastic doctor that works with you to ensure that you are getting the right treatment. I had anxiety about my condition outside of an appointment and Doctor Buggie made sure to answer any and all of my questions right away. Highly Recommend!
Dr. Buggie is excellent - he is very knowledgeable, thoughtful, helpful, and polite. It is obvious he really cares about his patients. Would highly recommend to anyone
Great psychiatrist. Made me feel at ease from the fist minute I walked into his office. Listens, understands, offers impartial advice, and has a joke or two up his sleeve.

Not a cookie cutter diagnostician or prescriber. With Dr. B, you get an individualized plan based on your needs, well studied medications, AND socioeconomic considerations (like drug cost). You can tell he’s about more than the bottom line, but is actually invested in the outcome of those under his care.
Dr. Buggie is very intelligent and intuitive. He is great at listening, and makes sounds recommendations. His office is tasteful and beautiful as well.
Finding the right psychiatrist can be a long and arduous process, so let me save you some time and energy by telling you that Dr. Buggie is the most exceptional doctor you can trust with your physical and mental health. I've been seeing him for several years, and his perceptive and insightful disposition makes him both a supportive counselor and a brilliant practitioner. He is unfailingly available to address his patient's medical and emotional needs, inside and out of the office. I would never have ended up in the solid place I am today without his compassion, encouragement, and expertise.
    Excellent
Dr. Buggie has an almost intuitive sense of getting you to understand your core issues. I am extremely grateful for his skilled guidance and continued care. Highly recommended.
We are extremely grateful for being referred to Dr. Buggie. He is an exceptional professional - compassionate and considering with his modality of treatment. Highly recommended.
Dr. Buggie is a godsend. Finding a great doctor in NYC (particularly Manhattan) is a full-time job, one that I can quit now. Dr. Buggie is very attentive, insightful, thoughtful and genuinely appears to care about his patients. Haven't had a great experience like this in this city -- or maybe even ever -- before. Highly recommend.
Dr. Buggie is clearly very bright and he has a very strong understanding of medications. His recommendations regarding adjustments to what I am taking were excellent. His manner was professional and focused, although I did sense a trace of judgement in some of his comments. He does not accept insurance so be prepared to shoulder the full cost.
Dr Buggie is a caring psychiatrist, who truly wants me to be my best self. He's very knowledgeable across the spectrum and with medication. He's also very easily reachable and available, and he's very tech-savvy, he electronically refills my medication. At the same time, he utilizes a practical approach and certainly doesn't overprescribe or think all solutions require medicine. Dr. Buggie also helped me through a tremendously difficult time, and now I'm better than I've ever been, and I will always be appreciative of his support, which I'm glad to say is continuing.
    Very personable and relaxed disposition
Very professional and thoughtful. Really works with you to make the right diagnosis and prescribe the right medication. A lot better experience than many psychiatrists i have been to!
Dr. Buggie is by far the greatest doctor I have ever worked with. You can really tell that he cares about his patients/practice and does everything in his power to help them. I was very comfortable talking with him about all of my issues, and he helped me manage medication in a way that was right for me as an individual. Unfortunately, he doesn't take insurance, but it was definitely worth it nonetheless. He goes the extra mile by using the latest technology to stay in contact with his patients and make things easier for them. Very transparent overall, and he has flexible hours, too! I would go as far as to say he is the best psychiatrist in New York.
I have been seeing Dr. Buggie for a while and I have known him to be an outstanding doctor. Very professional and easy to speak with. The new office is very nice as well. I highly recommend him.
He was late for the appointment and didn't let me know about him being late. I was standing in the hall way not knowing if he is coming or not, because he was not in the office and not answering questions. I felt like he is only worried about money that he receives from the patient and doesn't really care about them
I was contacted by Dr. Michael Colin on Dr. Buggie's and he was wonderful as well as the simplistic ZocDoc website and interface. Thank you!
    Awesome
Dr. Buggie was able to see me on short notice and I couldn't have been more pleased with his services. I felt like he truly listened and cared about my situation and I was very satisfied with his insights. Also his office was clean and charming. Definitely recommend.
Really enjoyed it, I will be going back
Dr. Buggie was prompt and responsive, which is important for any mental health consultation. I appreciate his transparency around pricing and policies, too. Unlike other psychiatrists I've seen, he did not do an extensive history intake, but seemed to focus on what's presenting in the moment. I think that's important since many of us who've had a lot of trauma tire of repeating the story to every new provider when it's not usually relevant to the current crisis or if we've had loads of therapy talking about it already. He seems conservative in his recommendations, which include finding more efficient ways of medicating.
