About Brian Smith

In my experience, people pursue therapy to relieve suffering, to understand themselves and their loved ones more deeply, and to expand their capacities for satisfaction in love and work. Often it takes the perspective of another person, and the support of that person, to put these processes into motion. Therapy can provide the safe space to explore ways to solve problems, grow, and live more fully. I am a general practitioner, with specialization in anxiety, depression, relationship troubles, life changes, and addictions. I offer individual therapy for adults and adolescents, and couples / family therapy. My approach is suited to the particular problems that bring you to therapy. Since suffering can be hard to talk about, taking a first step toward therapy sometimes involves some risk. The special setting of psychotherapy is meant to give confidence, putting in motion processes of personal growth that typically involve relief, deeper understanding, and an expanded capacity for meaningful change. I have many years of experience in various roles of mental health work. I have presented, taught, and supervised trainees in a number of settings, including at Mt. Sinai-St. Luke's and Mt. Sinai-Roosevelt Hospitals. __ ** Please note this insurance information: I accept out-of-network benefits for all health plans, including those listed, but not for Blue Cross. I do not accept any in-network insurance except for American Behavioral.
