Getting to know Dr. Michael Alexander

I am in-network for Aetna and Anthem Blue Cross commercial plans. (not for Medicaid or Medicare plans) If you're feeling stuck in unhealthy, repetitive patterns of behavior or want to change the direction of your life but don’t know how to go about it, I can help. I have over 35 years of experience practicing traditional psychotherapy, with a specialty in targeted cognitive-behavioral approaches (CBT). I have expertise in helping those with depressive or anxiety disorders, work, dating, and relationship issues, as well as those who have suffered significant loss. Having worked in upper management at the corporate level for 10 years, I also assist clients facing challenges at the executive level. Please note: I do not offer services related to disability evaluation or employment suitability.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first session is an evaluation. I'll ask you questions so that by the end of the session, I can have an understanding of what you're needing, and we can discuss going forward if I feel I can be of help.

    great listener and unbiased.

I don't like to write negative reviews, but I feel the need to share my intake experience. Seen a handful of therapists thought the years. Judgemental demeanor that you often encounter with PhD types. Right after giving my CC # over facetime, he demands I "move away from the camera" to create the frame he wanted. Got upset that I asked basic questions about his practice before providing more details about my issues. "What types of people do you work well with? Who do you struggle with and refer to others?" were not valid questions to ask. After failing to open up to him in session 1 he goes: "Well, it really seems like you do have some problems to deal with" in such a condescending tone. I will say: after I told him it wasn't a fit, he was kind enough to refund the session even after I called him a name. I do have problems and want to help myself, but this session made me lose more faith in the utility of therapy. Warm, empathetic and incompetent vs. the competent and cold.

Dr Alexander is both a great listener and very good at triage of the issues to help prioritize treatment. he appeared to gain a fair amount of insight from our session, and was very upfront about the co pay and coverage. I hope we can continue.

Dr. Alexander has been phenomenal for me. I don't take well to the talk and vent type of session and this is quite the opposite. I'm offered tactical approaches and solutions for things that i'm dealing with as well as helpful thoughts and recommendations. We work through tons of theories and behaviors that help me find understanding and acceptance. I've felt supported the whole way through and am handling my situation far better because of it.

He treats his patients with no respect

Dr. Alexander was professional and great to work with. He always provided action items at the end of each session which was very helpful. He was accomdating and easy to communicate with.
Dr. Michael Alexander is patient, courteous, and very professional. Coming from someone who does not like opening up, I felt completely comfortable sharing information with him. As someone a little newer to receiving mental healthcare, one thing I really appreciate is that I feel like a patient, given treatment plans that are realistic and adaptable to my lifestyle. He's incredibly kind and empathetic and I have been going to him weekly since. I've already recommended Dr. Alexander to another friend, and could not recommend him enough.
Excellent first experience with a CB therapist.
Only had one session (the intro one) but it could not have gone any better, my appointment started on time, my registration had already been done at that practice before so I only had to do the copay (2mins) before we started. He listened very well and I felt comfortable.

Dr. Alexander was great! Very professional and I was seen right away. I found him to be caring, perceptive, and articulate.

I haven't seen a therapist in some time, and was nervous to start again. I had my first session yesterday, and while I have some ways to go, Dr. Alexander had a very calming demeanor and seemed very focused on my long term well-being. I'm looking forward to continuing my sessions and generally "looking forward," which I haven't felt in some time.
Great, listened well, gave his thoughts (impressive for a first session), and wanted to clarify exactly what goals I wanted for therapy, which I appreciated. I felt like he didn't waste any time on irrelevant sidetracks (ie, lots of questions/details about the new company I'm starting, etc)
