Getting to know Jessica Garcia

Disclaimer: Providers at Canino Psychotherapy focus on therapy services and do not prescribe medication, as they are not psychiatrists. As a Licensed Mental Health Therapist with an MSEd in Mental Health Counseling from Hunter College, City University of New York, I am trained to treat clients with emotional, behavioral, and mental disorders. I utilize a humanistic, multicultural, and integrative approach, drawing from various therapeutic modalities to best meet the individualized needs of each client. I take a compassionate yet goal-oriented approach as I seek to understand the relationship between the brain and cognitive/behavioral functioning. My great passion is bringing healing to people by unlocking trauma responses, coping mechanisms, and subconscious programming. I specialize in working with teenagers, adult individuals, and families to help them develop healthy perceptions of themselves and strengthen their relationships. My goal is to support clients in knowing themselves as complete, whole, and safe, ultimately fostering profound improvements in their quality of life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Trust, respect and congruence are major components of a good therapeutic relationship. In addition to empathy and genuineness, providing a safe space for the client where there is no differentiation in hierarchy between therapist and client but rather a comfortable and relatable space for the client. As with any other social relationship, our therapeutic relationship will have clear boundaries that help us navigate how to work together to drive the best outcome for you. *Please kindly note that we do not provide psychiatry services (medication) and are unable to accept UnitedHealthcare Medicaid insurance plans at this time.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My approach to treatment is highly relational, as I believe that the foundation of counseling is a strong and genuine connection between the client and therapist. My goal is to create a space where clients can feel, be seen, and heard. My style is a blend of compassion, kindness, acceptance and authenticity; I am direct and engaging, action-oriented and solution-focused.

She called the wrong day , then make postponement por two times .

Super amazing, extra attentive, kind soul & voice feels like we could be friends that is how comfortable I am =)
The therapist does not confirm their appointments or communicates prior to the appointment.

The communication is not good and i never got my appointments
Verified patientVideo visit
It was great! Jessica listened throughout the entire visit and made me feel very comfortable.
Ok for now, but I need more time for a better answer.
Verified patientVideo visit
Wonderful and kind, listened to me and allowed me to open up very easily.
Jessica was very attentive & I felt very heard after our visit together.
that was awkward, around 75% of the session was long silence

I am upset. I logged into the Google meet link that was given but the link kept logging me out. I then called the office twice. Finally I received a call from Garcia and she tried to reschedule my appointment instead of just sending a new link. She was 20 minutes late and was very monotone and un interested. She then stepped away from the phone in the middle of the intake process and never stepped back. It seemed that she was just wasting time in order to fill the 53 minute time slot. I eventually hung up. I would not recommend her. Such a waste of time, this is so unfortunate and very unprofessional.

Be prepared to not have sessions with this therapist. I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt but she will make an excuse one way or another. She’s really unprofessional.

Two weeks in a row Jessica Garcia did not log in for my appointment. The first week she texted me two hours later to say “we had an appointment.” The next week she doesn’t log in for my appointment and texts me 40 minutes later to say she will be canceling this and all future appointments. When I called to try to make a new appointment she called me back to bully me for “making a statement.” Terrible provider, unprofessional and inappropriate. Stay away.

I waited over 10 minutes for my first session to start. Thats pretty annoying because the therapist asked me to reschedule 2 hours earlier and I agreed but i knew that instead of 50 minutes my session would have been cut down to 40 and that does not work out for me
Video visit
Would not recommend if you need to have consistency. The therapist canceled a lot of sessions at the last minute or without warning. Although it was through in-video, still showed up to the session late.

I am really happy that I made a connection with Jessica, she was exactly what I am looking for. She made me feel comfortable from the start and I’m looking forward on working with her.
Verified patientVideo visit
Did not feel a warm presence at all. Questions were too vague, information had to be repeated a few times which showed poor listening skills or maybe lack of interest. I had to awkwardly smile and push myself through the session but I knew from the get go this wasn't going to go as well as someone seeking psychotherapy needs.

I've worked with Jessica for over two years and she has helped me navigate thru major obstacles in my life, discover new parts of me, and learn to cope and embrace them. I'm happy I found her
She did not seem genuinely interested in getting to know me. She was reading questions off a script. It was very impersonal and cold. The opposite of what I'm looking for in a therapist
Video visit
Very professional with a lots of ethics.
First visit was more than I had expected. I felt comfortable and heard. She is amazing. I will be back! I was able to open and self-analyze.
She made me feel really comfortable and listened to me. She was very attentive of my needs. I would defiantely reccomend her to anyone.
Jessica was very professional and attentive to what I needed to say. I would definitely recommend her to anyone who is looking for a therapist.
Jessica has been very helpful in providing me with goals that are achievable for me and letting me talk through my problems. She is very intuitive and thoughtful, I highly recommend, she is great in all aspects.
Jessica has always been easy to speak with and share, she validates when I need it and challenges me also. Great listener and helped me through my thoughts in a kind manner. Also, she is very patient with me and spent a lot of time going over my particular situation, symptoms, etc. She was very honest and encouraging to me that we will make progress with our "plan."
