Dr. Payne was down to earth, personable, listened and also offered palpable advice. She has a welcoming, comforting demeanor. She still agreed to see me for my initial evaluation even though I had gotten caught in horrendous traffic and was nearly 30 minutes late for my appointment. Her home office is comfortable and she was very accommodating when I felt like I was at my wit's end. By the end of our session, I actually felt a little more human after a month-long downward spiral into anxiety-ridden depression. I would recommend Dr. Payne to anyone and everyone. She's absolutely wonderful.

Welcome to my practice. This statement will answer some of your questions. Be sure to ask any others that you may have. Above all, if you object to anything that happens to you here, please discuss the matter with me. Psychological services are expensive. You deserve quality care and satisfaction.
I am a clinical psychologist, licensed by the Board of Psychology of the Commonwealth of Virginia. My bachelor's degree is from Oberlin College, and my Ph.D. from the University of Vermont. Training there included yearly half-time internships. I served at a community mental health center, a behavior therapy outpatient clinic, the psychological testing service of a large general hospital, and the university counseling and testing center. My dissertation was in the area of biofeedback and migraine headaches.
Before returning to graduate school, I worked for two years as a therapist at a community mental health center in rural Vermont. From graduation in 1979 until 1990, I was employed by a similar facility in Bristol, Tennessee, beginning as a clinician and serving for the last seven years as agency clinical director. Between 1980 and 1990 I also maintained a private practice in Bristol. In October 1990, I opened my practice in McLean. My family returned to northern Virginia, where I grew up, in order to be nearer to my elderly mother during her last years.
Throughout my career I have enjoyed dealing with a wide variety of people with many different life problems. My services are for ages three years and older. Since leaving school, I have obtained additional training in a number of areas, including family therapy, treatment of addictive disorders, treatment of incest survivors and perpetrators, and clinical hypnos
