He earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of California, San Diego, completed his residency at the University of Pittsburgh, and pursued a fellowship there as well. Although he initially retired in 2019, he returned to the field to help out during the COVID-19 pandemic. This experience deepened his appreciation for the trust that patients and families place in him.
