About Dr. Christine Chen

Family practitioner Dr. Christine Chen, who is board certified in family medicine, treats patients of all ages and speaks some Mandarin Chinese. She earned her undergraduate degree in chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and her medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark. She completed her internship-residency in the Hunterdon Medical Center Family Practice Residency Program in Flemington, New Jersey. In her family practice, Dr. Chen treats a wide range of conditions, both acute, such as allergies and colds, and chronic, such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol. For conditions beyond the scope of a primary care provider, she refers patients to the most appropriate specialist. Dr. Chen chose medicine as a career because she wanted to help people. As a physician, she can help people maintain their health so they can do what they need to do: go to work, be with their families and take care of life’s other responsibilities. An attentive listener, she also likes to incorporate humor in her practice. She sees herself as a coach or a confidante for her patients, someone to go to for advice. Rather than dictating how something should be done, she works with them to find the best plan for their particular needs. Supporting that approach is her ongoing training as a life coach; she tries to apply coaching and questioning techniques to help patients build their health goals and gradually achieve them. The most satisfying part of practicing medicine is the satisfaction she feels when she and a patient have worked together as a team to reach a goal. Away from her practice, Dr. Chen enjoys reading, creative writing, arts and crafts, singing, and playing the piano.

I had a wonderful first visit! Dr. Chen was very understanding of my concerns and the man who did my blood draw was just wonderful. Very kind staff all the way around, as someone who is scared of doctors and dentists, I never felt uncomfortable in their care today. They had me in and out quickly as well.
