Getting to know Daniel Funk
My name is Daniel Funk, and I am a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC). I earned my Master’s degree in Nursing from The Ohio State University in 2018 and work in collaboration with Guardian Medical Direction physicians.
I have worked in mental health since 2013, beginning my career as a psychiatric care assistant, then as a psychiatric nurse, and since 2018 as a psychiatric nurse practitioner. This progression has allowed me to develop a deep, practical understanding of mental health care from multiple perspectives.
I have experience treating patients across the lifespan in a variety of settings, including inpatient psychiatry, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs (PHP/IOP), outpatient clinics, and telemedicine. My clinical focus includes mood and anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, OCD, PTSD, and psychotic disorders, as well as behavioral, personality, and substance-related conditions.
I take a collaborative, patient-centered approach to care, emphasizing thoughtful medication management, clear communication, and individualized treatment planning to help patients improve functioning and quality of life.

Evaluations & Documentation
Headway Telepsychiatry does not:

What is your typical process for working with clients?
Care begins with a 90-minute comprehensive psychiatric evaluation. This initial visit includes a thorough review of current symptoms, psychiatric and medical history, prior treatments, medications, psychosocial factors, and relevant life stressors. Diagnostic impressions are made using evidence-based practices and DSM diagnostic criteria, with an emphasis on accuracy and clinical clarity.
Following the evaluation, we review diagnostic findings together and discuss treatment options in detail. Patients are encouraged to ask questions, share preferences, and participate actively in treatment decisions. Treatment plans are individualized and may include medication management, supportive psychotherapy, and coordination with other providers when appropriate.
The first follow-up appointment after the initial evaluation is typically 45 minutes, allowing time to assess early treatment response, address side effects, and make thoughtful adjustments. Ongoing follow-up visits are usually 30 minutes and focus on medication management, symptom monitoring, progress toward treatment goals, and continued therapeutic support.
Appointment length and frequency are flexible and may be adjusted based on individual needs, clinical complexity, and patient preferences.
Between visits, open communication is available through the secure CharmEHR patient portal. Messages are typically responded to the same business day, or within 24–48 hours if submitted on weekends or holidays.
