I am a board-certified psychiatrist, my combined BS/MD training at the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education and at SUNY Downstate included a focus on treating under-served populations. I completed my residency in psychiatry at Mount Sinai Beth Israel where I was the senior resident in charge of the psychodynamic psychotherapy program. Post-residency I worked as an inpatient psychiatrist, helping patients with serious and persistent mental illness. During that time I supervised residents in the outpatient department as both a psychopharmacology supervisor and a psychodynamic psychotherapy supervisor.
I completed ketamine provider training through the Integrative Psychiatry Institute and offer ketamine assisted treatment. Currently, I am a psychotherapy supervisor, lecturer, and assistant clinical professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and the Mount Sinai Beth Israel psychiatric residency program.
My background has given me perspective on the barriers to good psychiatric treatment. Today’s psychiatric care can often be symptom focused, ignoring the possible root causes of illness. I believe in an integrative approach, the importance of biology but also of lifestyle, family, and environment. I believe that psychiatric illness can’t be separated from the question of what it means to live a good life, and that we can heal from our traumas.
My care is compassionate, integrative, and patient-centered. It's important to me that I treat people with kindness and respect.
I am influenced by interests in mindfulness meditation, psychodynamic psychotherapy, and psychedelic medicine.
