Dr. Rachel Slutsky, DO

Psychiatrist
NY
Hi, I'm Dr. Rachel, a licensed, board-certified psychiatrist who works with adults navigating anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, OCD, mood concerns, sleep difficulties, stress, relationship challenges, and major life transitions. I especially enjoy working with people who may look like they're holding it together on the outside but privately feel overwhelmed, self-critical, stuck, or disconnected from the life they want to live. I also speak Russian. My goal is to create a respectful, down-to-earth, nonjudgmental space where you can feel less alone and better understand yourself. My approach is warm, thoughtful, and collaborative. I believe good psychiatric care starts with feeling genuinely understood, so I take time to know you as a whole person, not a list of symptoms. I combine careful diagnostic assessment and medication management with psychotherapy-informed care drawing from CBT, ACT, biofeedback, and others, tailored to you. I earned my medical degree (D.O.) from Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed my psychiatry residency through HCA East Florida Division GME. I later served as an attending psychiatrist at NYU Langone Health's Tisch Hospital. If you're ready to take a step toward feeling more stable and fulfilled, I'd love to connect.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with me means you'll be treated as a whole person, not a diagnosis or a list of symptoms. Many of the people I see look like they're holding it all together on the outside while privately feeling overwhelmed, self-critical, or stuck, and I want you to know there's room here to be honest about how things really are. Patients often describe me as direct, compassionate, practical, and easy to talk to. I'll be straightforward with you about what I'm seeing and what options are available, and we'll make decisions about your care together. Whether you're managing anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, or another concern, my goal is for you to leave our sessions feeling understood, less alone, and clearer about your next steps.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our work begins with a thorough psychiatric evaluation, where I take time to understand your history, current symptoms, patterns, strengths, and what you hope to change. From there, we'll collaborate on a treatment plan that fits your goals and preferences, which may include medication management alongside psychotherapy-informed approaches such as CBT, ACT, DBT, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, or biofeedback. If medication is part of your plan, I'll explain the options clearly, discuss potential benefits and side effects, and make sure you feel comfortable with each decision. In follow-up visits, we'll check in on how you're feeling, review what's working and what isn't, and adjust your treatment as needed so your care continues to support you in feeling more stable, capable, and fulfilled.
