Dr. Mendelsohn's practice is dedicated to improving the health and function of his patients, treating the whole patient, not just the patient's symptoms. Dr. Mendelsohn's specialty, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, is a medical specialty focusing on functional restoration of persons affected by injury or disease. In short, Dr. Mendelsohn is an expert on muscles, joints, and bones. Dr. Mendelsohn is a competitive athlete and a coach, giving him an understanding of athletes, whether a weekend warrior or a professional.
Dr. Mendelsohn is a board certified Diplomate of the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ABPMR) and a Fellow of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPMR). Dr. Mendelsohn received his medical degree (MD) from SUNY Downstate in 1992. He completed his residency at Saint Vincent’s Hospital NY in Greenwich Village in 1996, where he was selected Chief Resident. Since that time he has been in private practice in Manhattan.
Dr. Mendelsohn is currently affiliated with NYU Hospital and Bellevue Medical Center where he is a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine. Dr. Mendelsohn is also affiliated with New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical College where he is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine.
With diligence, patience, and empathy, Dr. Mendelsohn will help his patients understand their condition and provide tools and resources to better equip them in self-management of their conditions. A variety of treatment methods, including the latest in technology are used to reduce or eliminate problems and to decrease the possibility of recurrence. This comprehensive approach produces cost effective results and high patient satisfaction.
Dr. Mendelsohn has received numerous accolades including being awarded the "Healing Hands Award" at St. Vincent’s Hospital in NYC for excellence in patient care. He has also been the recipient of the "Patients Choice Award" from 2008-2010. In addition, Dr. Mendelsohn received the "Compassionate Physician Recognition Award" in 2010. Finally, in 2011 Dr. Mendelsohn was included in the prestigious Consumers Research Council of America "Americas Top Physicians".

I've had a lingering sprain in my left leg and I started to get worried about it. Dr. Mendelsohn compared the pain on my right and left side until we were both convinced it was just a sprain, even though it had been persistent. He set me up with some medication and two physical therapy appointments and talked me through how to manage my activity to not reinjure it over the holidays. I feel very relieved now.

Dr Mendelsohn is caring, thoughtful, and trustworthy. He never rushes to most extreme treatment. The physical therapy group connected to his office is excellent.

I generally stay away from doctors so the fact that I am actually writing a review for one is something. Dr. Mendelsohn defines who a doctor SHOULD be for me. Caring, interested in my issue and proactive in helping my issue. He actually picked up the phone himself in the middle of our appointment to check wait times for an X-Ray at another facility for me.
The staff is likewise so amazing and extremely helpful. Michael and Jay have been gems and so accommodating and detailed in their correspondence.
This place cannot be recommended enough!

Dr. Mendelsohn has been an incredible doctor for me over the past few years. He is always understanding, and reassuring to me regarding my injuries & prognosis. He has always been accomodating with his schedule in the few times that I have wanted to get in and see him on short notice.
