ABOUT DR. GUPTA
Graduate of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency Program at the Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine at New York University Langone Medical Center. Studied and clinically practiced diagnosis and treatment of neuromuscular/ musculoskeletal disease in the field of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with emphasis on restoration of optimal function to people with injuries to the muscles, bones, tissues, and nervous system. Strong interest in a multi-disciplinary approach to Orthopedic & Spine Pain Management through the use of Interventional Pain Management, Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine, Ultrasound and Electrodiagnostics (EMG/NCS). Currently practicing Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, and Interventional Pain Management in New York and New Jersey.

The appointment felt like a high pressure sales pitch. He didn’t listen too much to my symptoms or concerns. Dr Gupta shared a personal negative experience with another provider where I was also receiving care. It was unprofessional and unnecessary. What finally confirmed that I would not return was the fact he was ADAMANT I get an MRI at a specific network of radiology centers. My insurance provider suggested going to a less expensive location, which I also happened to prefer. Presented with this information, he still insisted I try to get my insurance to approve the MRI at the more expensive and less convenient location. It felt like he was getting a kickback or something. Why was he so insistent? Additionally, it took a lot of calls to his office to get an insurance prior authorization for the MRI. I have never been so involved in getting prior authorization. They were disorganized. The whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth. I’m finding a new doctor.

Dr. Grupta was the consummate professional, very personable with a great bedside manner, who is very attentive to the needs of the patient, as well as Dr Tarwala, who also examined me. Everything went better than I could have expected. I would very highly recommend Dr Nickhil Grupta, and Dr. Rupesh Tarwala as well as "New York Bone & Joint Specialists".

Dr. Gupta was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. He immediately understood both my chronic pain issue and my current acute pain. He set me up with meds and PT right away and has been readily available over email. I’m glad I found him.

Dr. Gupta spoke very rudely and unprofessionally about his colleagues who made my diagnosis. Furthermore, he tried to aggressively get me to agree to getting an injection when I was clear that I had them and they didnt work for me. He scheduled the injection anyway. I left the office and then he called me at home about doing the injection. I never experienced such an event; very unprofessional and shocking.

He has a good bedside manner, attentive and kind. He listens to you and makes you feel very comfortable. He assured me I would be pain free afer a few more spinal epidural injections. I told him the injections didn't work for me when my other doctor did them on my back twice. He still insists he could do a few more of these procedures on me and eliminate my pain after studying my files. Kinda skeptical but I'm trying to be hopefull since I've had back pain for so long. He said he would keep me out if surgery which is great. Will see how it goes.
A little surprised he cut my pain medication drastically when it is the only thing that has helped me. I want to get off it right away and by no means do i abuse it and submit myself to tests so my intake is managed properly but to not wean me off it while i am still adjusting to life in NYC since i just moved here a month ago and said he wouldn't give me a prescription until i set a date for the procedures he is recommending the ones that did not work for me. Just frustrated.
I was hoping he would slowly ease me into a treatment plan while i adjust to life here but not to insist i do something i am not ready for. I can't take time off from a new job to get this done. So though he seems like a great doctor i dont want to feel pressured. Im still paying for procedures that didnt work and he wants to do it right away. I know its his specialty but don't want to feel forced to do what im not ready for. I still would recommend him.
