Excellent Visit! Dr Chynn is the Master of Laser Vision Correction! I am a physician and went for a second opinion of a botched Lasik (done elsewhere) - Dr Chynn reviewed my records and deftly explained what happened in 2012 and why I couldn’t see right. Although Dr Chynn makes a living by doing surgery, he took his time and explained that another procedure was not needed - that impressed me greatly. A note about the office - very nicely set up - almost communal. Cool quirky stuff in office like real bones and brains - the office dog is a nice touch. Staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. Now, this is not a place where you go for a simple check-up - the focus is cosmetic and vision correction - those that don’t understand this will be disappointed. Also, Dr Chynn is super smart and super blunt - with both patients and staff - from my medical standpoint, its a good thing - one must realize, when it comes to vision, what matters most is knowledge and skill - not sweetness and hand holding. I recommend Dr Chynn hands down and wish I would have used him the first time around!

Dr. Chynn is the ABSOLUTE best - if you're looking for an eye doctor then I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you visit Park Avenue Lasek. First off, Dr. Chynn is an incredible doctor. Within the first few minutes of walking into the office to check in with reception, Dr. Chynn, who was standing near the reception check-in, quickly diagnosed that I was blinking far too often and ended up putting small plugs in my eyes to alleviate the problem. I've been seeing eye doctors for the past 20+ years and Dr. Chynn was the first and only doctor to ever identify and solve my hyper-blinking issue. As far as eye exams, the office staff + Dr. Chynn were efficient at checking my eyes and providing me with a new prescription for both contact lenses and glasses. Dr. Chynn is also very friendly and I love that there's usually a dog in the office! A few months later, I ended up going back for a LASEK appointment. I was impressed that Dr. Chynn offers the most modern and efficient laser correction - making me feel very comfortable to get the procedure done at Park Ave. Lasek. What was most impressive, however, is the unique method in which Dr. Chynn communicates with patients - he creates a WhatsApp group with himself and the entire office staff for you to message if you have any questions. I love the WhatsApp group since it completely eliminates the need to call the office/leave messages and I've gotten very prompt responses (within the hour) from either Dr. Chynn or someone on his team whenever I've asked a question. I am so thankful for Dr. Chynn - he is a brilliant doctor. If you're considering booking an appointment here, do not hesitate! He is the BEST!

Doctor didn't show up the first time or was very late. I didn't wait. Second visit went without any issues.
Tried to upsell me on LASEK and glasses that I didn't need. Everything else was enjoyable and professional.
Dr Chynn is very knowledgeable but the practice seemed chaotic and I felt stressed in there.
awful, he treated me and his enployees like garbage, extremely neurotic and aggressive
I enjoyed my visit very much and felt very comfortable with his office and his staff

I'm a very forgiving and understanding person who gives everyone the benefit of the doubt, but do not go here. I felt like I was hustled through every appointment I had here and did not feel like the people attending to my case even remembered anything about it, even though they insisted on me coming in for follow ups weekly. They were also adamant about booking appointments right then and there, and would not let you call later to schedule an appointment (probably because they were worried people would go to another doctor). I definitely did experience what other people said, and I did see employees scolded rudely in front of me, have fellows educated in front of me in a way that did not feel professional and sacrificed my personal comfort, had comments made about my insurance in relation to what tier of prescription i should receive in an off-putting way, and my request for a generic prescription was ultimately denied. The whole situation was incredibly stressful.
The office is very unprofessional. Emil Chynn was scolding his fellow while evaluating me which made me feel very uncomfortable. I would not recommend visiting this office unless you have a big social media following and would like to be cornered into posting a video with the doctor as this seemed to be his only incentive in seeing patients The indicator for me that I will not be returning to this doctor is the office dog (unsanitary) that tried to lick me while I had my eyes closed for dilation. Beautiful dog but definitely not the place to keep him.

Despite his busy schedule, he doesn't rush. He treats every patient with care. My problem was just an infection on my right eye and not like doing LASIK, but Dr. Chynn explained me the cause and prescribed an eye drop.
I have to honestly say that this visit was my worst doctor visit ever! I was supposed to see Dr. Chynn, but he never talked to me. Instead, one of his fellow did the annual eye exam. The fellow was okay. But what happened next surprised me. Because I am being pregnant, with a bad vision, like -6.50. And I heard that if you have a poor vision, you might face the risk of breaking your retina. So I made this appointment to consult about this and wanted to do a retina image. So, after finishing the routine exam, the fellow told me that Dr. Chynn will come and see me. But when he finally showed up, he didn’t even talk with me or say anything to me. Instead, he kept educating his fellow about this retina issue in front of me, rudely, without any respect. He asked her questions like “ how many baby were born every year”, “ how many mom being found of breaking retina during the delivery”, etc. I understood his point that he never talked with me. But I feel like he was laughing at me and saying that i am stupid enough to come to his office to pay for the retina check. Even in the end, he didn’t say anything to me, just rudely educating his fellow in front of me! Obviously, he does’t care about his patients. I will never ever come back. If there was a zero star, I would definitely rate him like that. Don’t go there!
Dr. Chynn and his staff are amazing! I am always seen right away, and they have been very helpful with the preparation of my surgery. Something that is also convenient is that they set up a text conversation in order for you to have access to a doctor in case of an emergency, even if the office is closed.

Terrible experience. I had to wait more than 30 minutes to be seen by the ophthalmologist's fellow after which I was left in the dark exam room to wait for about another 30 minutes to see the Dr Chynn himself. I actually had to nudge him to see me as he kept finding things for his staff to do or correct, micromanaging them. When he finally arrived in the exam room he had all sorts of problems with his fellow's notes on the examination she'd conducted and instead of getting to examining my eyes he gave her a long lecture in front of me, which I had to stop by saying that I did not feel comfortable having him criticize the fellow doctor including her poor English right in front of me. I learned very little about the state or my eyes. It took two hours. With the MBA Dr. Chynn also holds, I was expecting him to at least know how to run his office.
Dr. Chynn is the best Ophthamologist I've ever seen and I've been wearing eyeglasses since 1968. He is very articulate and patient about explaining procedures and how the eye works. He took the time to get my history and to listen to my questions. He asked me to describe in detail what I was seeing and experiencing with my vision. He then examined my eyes and I felt confident he knew what to look for. Dr. Chynn he is upbeat and reassuring, whereas previous eye doctors were the opposite. He has a great staff and the waiting room is relaxing and comfortable. It’s in a beautiful location.

Stay away from this doc. Rude beyond belief!
I really enjoyed being able to see a teaching doctor in action. Dr. Chynn reviewed the work of his fellow Dr. Gao, and they both informed me thoroughly of my condition by allowing me to see their process of analysis and treatment in real time. It was a dynamic experience and it felt like I was catching a glimpse of the rigor of medical school. I am grateful for this excellent office and Dr. Chynn’s painstaking efforts to make sure his fellows are the absolute best.

I always go to dr Chynn over anyone else for his unparalleled expertise and for the individual attention he gives alll his patients! Thanks dr c, you’re amazing
Dr. Chynn is always so nice, he answers my hundreds of questions and doesn’t give up until I really understand everything I need. Thanks as usual
Dr Chynn was professional and helpful.

I didn't love this appointment. The physician's assistant didn't tell me what my condition was. When the doctor came in he explained things better, but then rushed me out of the appointment and started discussing my prescription in the waiting room where people were sitting. I wasn't comfortable discussing my concerns with the side effects of the medication he prescribed in public like that. Overall it was an uncomfortable experience and more disconcerting than reassuring.
I want the best for my eyes so I went to the best there is and thats without a doubt, Dr Chynn! Everything went very smoothly and I couldn't be happier.

Attentive and knowledgeable. Offered peace of mind with follow up from surgery done by another Doctor. Would definitely recommend!

Dr. Chynn was amazing. I found him to be extremely knowledgeable with a warm personality. My examination was very thorough & he answered all of my questions & addressed all of my concerns. I never felt rushed & trusted that I was in good hands. I highly recommend Dr. Chynn!

I don't doubt Dr. Chynn is a great doctor but my experience at his office was pretty terrible across the board. First, when I came in and was shown to the exam room, I had to listen to him berate the person checking patients in at the front desk for what seemed like at least 20 minutes. Very unprofessional in my opinion. Second, when he finished yelling at the poor guy up front, he came in and was frustrated that I'd reserved an appointment through ZocDoc instead of calling. He then asked how I was purchasing my contact lenses and I told him I got a discount through my former optometrist. That answer didn't seem satisfactory to him and he provided endless criticism for ordering through an optometrist and not through 1-800-CONTACTS, since I *surely* would get a better deal through the latter (untrue). Third, he didn't even look at my eyes. The technician / nurse / support staff did 100% of the exam, most of which was spent going over my personal information (work history, job title, etc.). How that was relevant to my eyesight and prescription is still unclear to me. The actual eye exam didn't start until 45 minutes after being seated in the exam room. Last, I found that since he is an Ophthalmologist, not an Optometrist, he accepts Medical insurance, not Vision insurance so I got an ear full for giving my Vision insurance card instead of my Medical. I'm sure Dr. Chynn is skilled and knowledgeable but my experience was awful in literally every way.

I booked through ZocDoc but when I showed up, it was not in the system. They were very helpful and the front desk "Mark" was very helpful in fitting me in anyway. He also sorted out my insurance for me as they had changed my ID number format for some crazy reason and which was not showing up in the system. All in all, I just needed a quick exam for DMV purposes but this place was more for Lasek surgeries.
Verified patient
I booked an appointment at this office to check on my vision and see if I needed to get a new prescription for glasses and contacts. Turns out this is primarily a Lasek surgery location. I was told at the front desk that for insurance reasons they could not give me a prescription for both glasses and contacts, and I would need to pick one and then re-book another appointment with them. I chose contacts. My eye exam was performed by someone other than Emil Chynn, who did not speak English very well and had trouble asking me questions or giving directions (where to look, etc.). Before I was able to go, Dr. Chynn came into the room and proceeded to berate the Fellow that had been conducting my exam, as well as the student that was in the room with her. Everything from their poor language skills, to their lack of depth on my exam, to whether they were properly upselling me on the surgery he performs...all while I was sitting in the exam chair without my contacts in my eyes waiting to leave. As I got the OK from Dr. Chynn that I could just take my prescription and leave, the Fellow pulled up a screen with 1-800-Contacts and started asking me which lens brand I had so that she could order for me. When I said I wasn't 100% sure, she gave me a hard time for not knowing what I used, and also tried to tell me that there were ones online that were 'better' for my eyes (despite not knowing what I was already using). All in all, a very poor experience that I would not recommend to anyone!
Verified patient
They really only want to perform the lasik surgery. make sure you understand that when you make an appointment otherwise you're better off using your time and money more wisely by booking an appointment with an ophthalmologist.
Dr. Chynn was able to look at my eye and tell me immediately what was wrong, what had caused it and how to avoid it in the future. It was quick and easy. He's not chatty, more no-nonsense but that wasn't a problem for me.
Verified patient
I found the bedside manner appalling - Dr Chynn spent the entire time with me berating the poor associate who had (perfectly professionally) carried out my contact lens exam. He humiliated her in front of me and everyone else who could hear, leaving her visibly upset and me feeling very uncomfortable. When interacting directly with me, he was confrontational and dismissive. Very bizarre behaviour and completely unwarranted. Would definitely not take my business back here.
This was by far the weirdest and worst visit to a medical professional, and I use that term loosely, that I have ever experienced. The doctor who was helping me during my eye exam, not Dr. Chynn, left a couple minutes in to speak with Dr. Chynn. I could hear him berating her and a man at the front desk, she then came back and finished the test seemingly unfazed. I got a vibe like this happens all the time... Dr. Chynn later came in with an attitude like he didn't want to be there, used A LOT of profanity, and at one point questioned the mental well-being of my previous Optometrist with words that I'm not able to repeat in this review. To top it off, after everything was over, two employees aggressively tried pushing Lasek surgery on me. I seriously thought I was on a TV show or something... I would NOT recommend this place to anyone.
Verified patient
I personally had a really bad experience. The doctor mistreated his assistant in front of his patient was extremely rude and impatient. His attitude and way of talking with his patients was extremely rude and unpleasant. He was very difficult to deal with and to talk to, he had a very condescending tone. Overall I was very unhappy with my visit and would not consider going back.
Dr. Chynn didn't actually exam my eyes; and didn't feel it was necessary to dig up my chart so I was annoyed I had to fill out new patient forms and try to remember everything about my procedure; This review is for one of his assistant doctors. She was very thorough and made me feel comfortable.
Verified patient
Dr. Chynn is a stellar surgeon, I chose him after waying my options with many other doctors. However, his bedside manner leaves someting to be desired. He's formal with patients, though his treatment of his own staff is really disrespectful. While I appreciated that he was teaching them to not make mistakes, he could have done so without name calling, especially in front of his patients. I am happy with the results of my surgery, though I did not look forward to my followups. When I reached out to schedule an appointment about something as simple as dry eye, he got defensive and brought up lawsuits?! Not sure what transpired with him and previous patients that led him to jump to such ridiculous conclusions. If he has experienced trouble, I can only guess that it was due to his personality and not due to his stellar work. Do I recommend him? Maybe. His services are solid, but he's an irascible person.
I appreciate his professionalism
Verified patient
He is incredibly rude and condescending to his staff. One of the doctors forgot to ask me a question during my exam and rather than speaking with the doctor afterwards, he spent 10 minutes scolding and berating her with me in the room until I finally asked him to stop because of how inappropriate it was to do this with a patient in the room. I'm sure he's a very qualified doctor, but his personality is horrible and I would not recommend him!
I had a problem in my eye, after 4 visits I still had the same problem, and we had no clue about what was causing it. Every time I went I had to wait way too long, even with an appointment. I didn't see the Doctor most of the time, but had to deal with the interns, and that was not a really good experience when you try to get something fixed and you feel like someone is learning with you. It also lead to very awkward almost angry discussions between the Doctor and the Intern.
1) Zocdoc doesn't link up with doctor's actual schedule. I went back and forth over scheduling multiple times... annoying. 2) Even though I filled out paperwork online through Zocdoc, I still had to fill it out when I got to the office 3) Office Managers were confused making for a very frustrating check in/check out process 4) Fellow working with Dr. Chynn seems to be unfamiliar with U.S. practices... unacceptable. Dr. Chynn had to explain everything to him and they went back and forth on what kind of prescription to give to me. This was uncomfortable and took up so much time. 5) They told me to take out my contacts and didn't have a proper room to do so. If I didn't ask for the bathroom, I think they would have expected me to pluck them out right then and there with no solution and no contact lens case. 6) They pushed Lasik surgery on me the whole time until I finally yelled, "I'M NOT INTERESTED." 7) Dr. Chynn told me repeatedly that he doesn't make any money off of glasses/contact lenses. Made me feel like my visit was unimportant. 8) I hated my experience and will NEVER EVER go back.
I am about a month post-op. Having worn glasses/contacts since elementary school, it is absolutely incredible to be able to see clearly without them. I was legally blind with an extreme myopic prescription and now I am seeing perfectly! I have done a lot of research and visited other laser vision surgeons and chose Dr. Chynn over everyone because he learned from the best (Harvard, Emory, Dartmouth, NYU) and created the safer-than-LASIK LASEK himself! Dr. Chynn also had LASIK done years ago and still experiences dry eyes. However, according to the reviews here and himself, there are no complications such as dry eyes after LASEK as long as you strictly follow the post-op recovery directions Additionally, the staff is very informative and definitely know what they’re doing. They addressed all my doubts and worries professionally and I left with complete trust in them. If you don’t believe me, go in for a free consultation yourself!
