“He was wonderful! I felt like I was the only person in the world, that my problems mattered to him. Feeling heard is so rare. Getting help is hard enough and knowing there is never judgment helped me more than I can say! I trust my life in his hands you should too. ”

Getting to know Fred Overman

As a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (APRN), I am dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based mental health care. My practice is built on the foundation of treating the whole person—integrating the mind, body, and spirit to help you achieve lasting wellness and balance. I am fluent in both English and Spanish. With over 15 years of experience in counseling and 8 years in nursing, I offer a unique perspective that combines traditional psychiatric medication management with holistic strategies. I specialize in treating a wide range of mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, and mood disorders. My approach is collaborative and patient-centered; I believe in empowering you with the tools and knowledge necessary to build resilience and improve your overall quality of life. I focus on holistic treatment and safe, long-term alternatives. I do not prescribe benzodiazepines (such as Ativan, Xanax, etc.) or stimulants (such as Ritalin, Focalin, Concerta, Adderall, Vyvanse, etc.) due to their potential for long-term detrimental effects and dependency. Instead, I work with patients to utilize safe and effective alternatives such as Strattera, Intuniv, and Qelbree, alongside holistic wellness plans. Educationally, I earned my Master’s in Nursing from The University of Texas at Arlington and my MEdSC from Dallas Baptist University. Join me as we work together on your journey to better health.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with me is a collaborative journey where we address the mind, body, and spirit. I believe that medication is rarely the only answer; instead, we achieve the best outcomes by first addressing underlying health issues and then integrating counseling, nutrition, and lifestyle adjustments alongside any necessary medications or supplements. Specialist Expertise Insomnia Care: I am specifically trained in CBT-I (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia) to help you restore natural sleep patterns without reliance on sleep aids. ADHD & Anxiety: I focus on helping you move from simply "existing" back to "doing life" by managing symptoms of depression, anxiety, and developmental disorders. Bilingual & Culturally Attuned: As a bilingual provider, I offer full sessions in both English and Spanish. I also integrate spiritual values for those who find hope and support within their faith system.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

1. Comprehensive Initial Evaluation Our first meeting is a 60-minute deep dive into your history. During this evaluation, we will discuss your past medical and psychiatric treatments, family history, and current life situation to identify root causes and establish your wellness goals. 2. Collaborative Treatment Planning We will work together as partners to create a personalized plan. This integrated approach includes: Counseling: Incorporating therapeutic techniques to support your mental health journey. Holistic Strategies: Utilizing nutritional supplements and lifestyle adjustments, such as exercise or sleep hygiene. Safe Medication Management: Discussing non-controlled medication options when appropriate. I do not prescribe stimulants or benzodiazepines. Spiritual Integration: For those who find support within their faith system, we can integrate these values into your healing. 3. Ongoing Monitoring & Support We will schedule regular follow-up appointments to monitor your progress and fine-tune your treatment. These sessions ensure your plan remains aligned with your evolving needs and goals.
