Dr. Smith has been in private practice for 20 years in Nesconset. He earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Northeast College of Health Sciences and holds a bachelor's degree from the State University of New York at Oneonta. He has assembled a unique set of post-doctoral credentials to most effectively serve his patients, including the status of Active Release Technique (ART) Certified Practitioner-one of the few in Suffolk County with this designation. (ART is the "gold standard" in soft tissue treatment, sought out by Olympic and professional athletes.) To better treat auto accident injuries, he trained at the San Diego Spine Research Institute, achieving Certification in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Whiplash and Associated Disorders and Certification as an Auto Accident Reconstructionist. Dr. Smith has over 300 hours of post-graduate neurology, successfully completing a Fellowship in Neurology through Northeast College of Health Sciences, achieving Board Eligibility with the American Chiropractic Academy of Neurology and the International Academy of Chiropractic Neurology. In 2011, he became Certified in Kinesio Taping, which is commonly used to help Olympic and professional athletes. He has participated in volleyball at the Empire State Games, two-man beach volleyball tournaments, and numerous triathlon and cycling events. He uses his own experience as an athlete desiring to "stay on the playing field" in arriving at treatment plans for elite as well as recreational competitors.
