My interest in orthopedic surgery began when I was an orthopedic patient. I spent a year of my life on crutches while recovering from multiple knee surgeries after a football injury. I believe that my experience as a patient helps me provide high-quality health care with passionate and dedicated service to all of my patients. I enjoy spending time with my patients so that I may better serve them and understand their needs.
I earned my Doctor of Medicine (MD) and Master's in Public Health (MPH) from Yale University. I completed my orthopedic externship at Harvard University and Massachusetts General Hospital. I did my orthopedic internship and residency also at Yale University. I performed my orthopedic trauma and reconstruction fellowships at Parkland Hospital/UT Southwestern in Dallas, TX; a computer navigation fellowship in Hannover, Germany; and an orthopedic pelvic FAI fellowship in Homburg, Germany.
My clinical interests and specialties include complex fractures, upper and lower extremity fractures, fracture nonunions and malunions, fracture and soft-tissue complications, pelvis/acetabular fractures, and anterior hip and shoulder replacements.

I was most fortunate to have been referred to Dr.Ortega by the ER physician and he performed emergency surgery on my fractured calcaneus. His bedside manner before and after surgery was exceptional...very patient, compassionate and comforting demeanor. His P.A., Eric, was equally as professional and attentive as Dr. Ortega. I met his office staff and nurse today at my first post op appointment and everyone was kind, courteous, and helpful. An entire team of first class medical professionals.

I found that the Office & Nurse to be very helpful and pleasant, nice office. The Office building reminded me of an old Cigna Building, who knows.
Dr Ortega was excellent and did explain that an MRI would be needed to get a good look at the area in question. Physical exam was a bit uncomfortable, but needed to be done, he was gentle & not to push hard. I was able to have my questions answered, but MRI was is now needed.
I'm quite familiar to Orthopedic Physicians, he is the 7th in the past 25 years, been around the block and getting old SUCKS! Dr Ortega, I will definitely recommended.

He has a good personality. He examined my knees without causing me even more pain & explained all options well. I will say that all his staff I dealt with were real good & friendly to deal with too. I highly recommend this doctor & his staff!!!

Having to go see Doctor Ortega is always great! The staff are friendly and helpful, the lobby has free coffee, and every time that I've been there, the wait time was negligible. Dr. Ortega himself is friendly, easy-going, and very concerned about the wellbeing of his patients. I would definitely recommend Dr. Ortega!

In and out, right to the point, effective treatment, Doctor Ortega is the best.
After a double compound fracture two years ago, the hospital emergency room could do nothing for me so they air lifted me to the Scottsdale Trauma Center, where I was fortunate to be cared for by Doctor Ortega who operated on my leg (both bones were crushed) Today I walk without a limp and am grateful for his excellent professional care. His staff are some amazing people.
I will forever be grateful that I was fortunate enough to receive the benefit of his training and experience.

Given the numerous patients he has operated on and the continued education he dedicates himself to, I would go to him first and foremost over a rookie. He is a real EXPERT in his field. I've been a patient of Dr. Ortega's for 6 months to repair a broken pelvis. According to my mom, a nurse, a pretty complicated and dangerous injury. I'm happy to report that he put me back together and I have hardly any residual issues, even though I have a screw that goes from one hip bone to the other. The only downside is that he doesn't take insurance, only Medicare. Given my type of injury, it's a pretty big bill. That being said, the insurance companies reduce the doctor's fees to nothing so in some ways, it is nice to see him actually get paid for his services. His office has been great on working with me to reach a good resolution dealing with my insurance company. My only complaint would be that I should have been notified that my insurance did not cover so that I could make an informed decision on what to do ahead of time.

Dr Ortega has been my surgeon on several surgeries so far. Every time I have an appointment the staff is very friendly and professional. Dr Ortega takes time to explain situations so I can understand them in normal language. Before each surgery he comes by and talks to you explaining again what will be happening. I have my 5th surgery scheduled for the 12th of Nov.
