Getting to know Dr. Glenn Occhiogrosso
I am board-certified in Adult and Addiction Psychiatry. I have been practicing in New York City for over ten years and am a lifelong New Yorker.
I earned my medical degree from SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University in Brooklyn. I completed my residency and an Addiction Fellowship at Mount Sinai Beth Israel in Manhattan.
After completing my fellowship, I returned to Brooklyn to be the Medical Director of the Inpatient Detoxification Service at Kings County Hospital Center. During my more than 10 years at Kings County, I served as the Psychiatry Clerkship Director for St. George’s University School of Medicine, Associate Program Director for the SUNY Downstate Residency Program, Medical Director of the Adult Inpatient Psychiatric Service, and Clinical Director of the Comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluation Program (CPEP). Working in these distinctly different areas, I gained valuable experience treating a wide range of clinical presentations and pathologies.
After leaving Kings County, I was a Staff Psychiatrist at Talkiatry for two years. In this capacity, I treated patients via telepsychiatry. With my patients there, I focused on medication management, while also adding supportive therapy, motivational interviewing, and psychoeducation.
As a result of my experience in these diverse clinical settings, I am comfortable treating patients across the entire spectrum of mental and behavioral health conditions.
During my time at Kings County, I held faculty appointments at SUNY Downstate Medical Center and St. George’s University School of Medicine. In addition, I spent nearly all of my academic career teaching, mentoring, and supervising psychiatric residents and medical students alongside my clinical work.

Dr. Occhoogrosso is a wonderful psychiatrist. My previous psychiatrist of 18 years closed his private practice and the thought odd developing a new patient Dr relationship was daunting. I also struggled with finding a Dr that accepted my insurance. I am grateful I found Dr. Occhiogrosso through Zoc Doc.
