Patient reviews for Dr. Hemanjani Gonchigar
Didn't feel like a judgement free helpful place to receive treatment. Dr. was not really listening to what I was saying and quickly recommended me to someone else 30 minutes farther away.
AMAZING!!! I have been seeing her for almost 5 years now. She is hands down the best. She actually gets to know you and works with you on making sure you are getting the right medication for you. Never have I felt like a patient or felt rushed with her. She is easy to talk to and understands you even when you may not even understand yourself if that makes sense. She takes her time to really make sure you are taken care of and are doing well, not just with medication, but overall with your life and things that maybe going on. She goes above and beyond to make sure you are doing well. If anyone has put a bad review on here its probably because they just went in wanting a certain medication and she wouldn't prescribe it because she takes the time to get you on the right medication not just what WEBMD says you should be on. She is a professional and knows what she is doing.
I have been seeing her over the last few months and she is very friendly and personable. She asks about your welfare and DOESNT just hand you meds and then show you to the door. She asks about your symptoms and what is going on in your life that affects them. I am very satisfied with the treatment management provided. She responds to your case and adjusts your treatment accordingly.
I really hate giving poor reviews, but this one sadly warranted it. She was more anxious than me and I was supposed to be the patient. I feel like she would be a better psychiatrist if she was less judgemental. She automatically assumes the worst. It doesn't feel safe revealing information to her.
I tried to stick with Dr. Gonchigar as my psychiatrist for 6 months and continually felt judged and not listened to. I was not comfortable with her choice to just continually up my dosage instead of taking the time to explore other medications or treatments. I will be finding a new doctor.
The doctor really seems to care and takes her time with you at the appointment. I would highly recommend her to anyone. She is very knowledgeable and caring.
Let's just say...I ran out of the room crying! She did not listen to me, belittled me, and refused to prescribe me any medication when I was going through a severe crisis and needed help. Avoid this doctor!!!
She’s patient and extremely knowledgeable . She respects your requests and doesn’t try to push unnecessary medication on you.
I'll be switching doctors soon. I asked for a copy of my medical record and the receptionist told me they don't release medical records to patients unless I talk to the doctor. I didn't want to have any confrontation so I'll be asking my new doctor to get my file. Everytime I come to an appointment its like she remembers only the bad things I told her, things that I've moved on from but she keeps reminding me. I don't get constructive advice, just a quick medication change and re-itterating things that arn't relevent anymore and making me feel shame when depression has set me back. I always leave feeling bad, more stressed, anxious, and unahppy. I don't feel any positive energy from her. The only reason I chose her is because she is only one of 2 psychatrists on zoc doc that take my insurance in my area. Now I think i'll have to make the effort to find a new doctor by calling via phone. This sucks.
Very nice doctor and a joy to talk to, Understood my concerns and was able to talk out a plan of action for me. Thank you!
She was very considerate, understanding and helpful. Felt less like an interrogation (as sessions have in the past with other providers) and more like a friendly conversation, which put me at ease. I’ve seen other reviews that claim she tries to “push medications on you” but I didn’t find that to be the case. Also, if potential prescription suggestions were to make someone uncomfortable, you would think they would have looked for a psychologist instead of a psychiatrist anyway...
She was personable and gave excellent suggestions after I explained my situation. She asked if I would be willing to change meds before she prescribed. She was very encouraging about the future.
My daughter has depression and anxiety which is sort of under control with current medications. We came to see Dr. Gonchigar because we wanted to see someone in the network despite the fact we were happy with previous doctor who didn’t take insurance. I read reviews online before bringing my daughter. I understand others complaints but over all, I believe Dr. Gonchigar deserves better. My daughter wanted to be heard better without being interrupted since that’s the only way how she can be understood as it’s written in their welcome note. I will try to encourage my daughter to tell how she wants to be heard even though it could be little tricky for a teenager. Im personally hoping we will stay with Dr. Gonchigar because I can tell she means good intention.
Dr. Gonchigar was pleasant and I felt like she empathized well with my feelings.
Great help as always.
Felt very comfortable with Dr. Gonchigar for my first visit. Great bedside manner and did not wait more than 5 minutes. Felt very comfortable and will definitely be going back.
She is very direct, but not abrasive, and I can see where some people might have issue with that. I however found it was due to concern that she was being thorough. She asked multiple questions, listened very well, and had a sincere concern in helping with my issues. I feel fortunate to have found her.
Dr Gonchigar is very professional and insightful. It was cathartic to talk to her and I’m glad I went to her first.
Very open and knowledgeable. Does not try to push addictive medication which I love.
So far best psychiatrist I have seen in the NOVA area. She immediately informed me a med I have been on for 7-8 years was the cause of another medical issue I have. Very informative, knows her medicines, doesn't push anything onto you. Gives you options and wants to weigh things out with you before moving into anything. Communication with her was great, she asks good questions, but doesn't prod into things too much. Glad I found her. No copay or initial payment was required for my first visit which was strange. I am sure a bill will be coming for it though.
She was very compassionate and listened to what I had to say. I saw s couple doctors before her who were rude and unhelpful so I'm very glad I kept looking.
Worst psychiatrist I've ever seen. She made me feel uncomfortable by her judging. Her treatments did not help. Also, was billed 2 years later for past due bills that they did not mention my insurance did not cover. Overall, horrible service.
Great Bedside manner. She is kind, polite and asked relevant questions. Would definitely recommend her.
Hemanjani Gonchigar was compassionate and humble. My personal case is complex, and she recognized in such a kind way that it was beyond her personal expertise. To me this is the mark of a good and SAFE practicing psychiatrist.
Extremely kind and caring. My new psychiatrist going forward.
Was really good! I always feel sketchy going to new Dr’s but I have had great experiences picking ones through Zocdoc! Doc Gonchigar was awesome and very very happy with my visit today...also her desk staff was amazing so definite bonus!
Very well. Super polite and helpful.
Lady at the front is the worst. Rude. Never going back here...
Awesome! Took time to really understand my concerns and actually read through the records I brought in concerning my condition. I also liked she didnt try to rush the appointment—no in and out here. She took a full 45min with me. Dr. Hermanjani was warm, professional and very smart. I’ll be back.
The doctor is great. I’ve been seeing her for a year however the front desk staff isn’t so great. Calls aren’t returned and medication return calls to pharmacy sent returned. I’ve now decided that I can’t take the chance of not being able to get my refills when needed so looking to find another doctor. This office definitely needs a better front desk staff and answering service for calls.
Dr. G is amazing! She recommended a medication to me that changed my life completely for the better and suggested getting checked out for a condition I never would have considered. That is the level of expertise and professionalism that I look for in a psychiatrist. She is very insightful and has great advice and is attentive during our sessions. I love how convenient her office is, and how I never have to wait forever like some other offices.
I have never left an appointment with Dr. Gonchigar, not feeling judged. I feel that she passes judgement on concerns I bring up to her, rather then helping me work on potential solutions. I have also found that when I tried to bring up side effects from medication I was dismissed on more than one occasion.
Very professional. My step daughter was very comfortable confiding with Dr. Gonchigar during her session. She looks forward to seeing the doctor every month.
She was extremely sincere and genuinely seemed concerned with my issues. She listened to me and didn’t judge me, which is an issue I’ve had in the past with other psychiatrists. She addressed all my issues and concerns with compassion and understanding. She is very soft spoken with a great bed side manner. We worked out a treatment plan together and she involved me with my care. Excellent doctor.
I just felt so uncomfortable with her, the way she reacted to my answers to the questions just made me uncomfortable. The reactions seemed very over the top and judgey. When I revealed sensitive information about myself, I felt like the way she responded made me feel like a freak or if I'd made the wrong decisions. Like I would say something, and she'd repeat it with a really shocked expression, eyebrows raised and in a tone that felt like she was reprimanding me. She also really scared me about the medication I was looking for (which was recommended to me by my therapist). After her, I went to a different psychiatrist. This one wasn't covered by my insurance like Gonchigar was, but I think it was worth it. I revealed all the same information, but the other doctor didn't make me feel like a freak. The second doctor just listened, and empathized, and asked more questions to understand why. And gave me advice that helped me process my information. He also put me very at ease about the mediciation.
Very kind person. Listen to our teenager and to parents. She seemed to care and had ideas. Easy to talk to.
Wow... a psychiatrist that actually listens? One that actually takes the time to explain things and answer questions?! I was beginning to think doctors like that didn’t exist! Dr. Gonchigar was very friendly, non-judgmental, honest and patient. The appointment felt semi-therapeutic (not JUST about medication which tends to be the case for most psychiatrists, in my opinion). I felt comfortable and was able to be open and honest and really appreciated the professional and realistic but also hopeful responses I received in return. I am looking forward to working with this doctor to improve my quality of life and am thankful I found her.
Great appt! I appreciate her and staff!
The office is not organized and they let people in with out appointment instead of people that have appointment I was sitting there over 30 min and the front desk let a man in with out appointment and when we complained they said it will be your turn soon
For a first time visit, I felt like I finally had somebody willing to listen to me and understand my issues for the first time in my life. It was refreshing.
Office staff seemed on their game and friendly. Dr. G was friendly, took notes, and asked good questions. She did change subjects rather frequently (this was an initial consult) as she had a list of questions that they apparently ask everybody. She seemed sympathetic and wanted to follow up with me two weeks later, then would later look at less frequent visits like my previous doctor was doing.
Very professional and easy to talk to. Really liked her.
First visit or two were fine, but she got really weird about discussing side effects of meds or med changes. It did not feel like a safe space.
Be patient. She cares. If the conversation seems too medicine based, well...why did you come to a psychiatrist as opposed to a counselor? And, sad as it may be, some problems can't be solved be a new perspective. I was resilient at first but I've "gotten my life back" and then some.
she was great, got me the help i needed.
Appointments are always just okay. Seems a little judgmental sometimes, which makes me feel less likely to open up about anything. Also doesn't ever really seem that interested in me personally. I feel like I'm just another co-pay.
I am rating this on one a first consultation appointment. Dr. G listened to my background, took notes, asked questions and seemed genuinely interested. Because she said that I have a lot on my plate, she scheduled an appointment to see me in one week. She did remind me that her primary job is to manage my medication, so I do have to couple this treatment with therapy. The reason I chose Dr. G was because of the previous reviews I read where people actually wrote something. If someone gives a doctor a 5 star rating with no words to back it up, I don’t even count that rating. Probably fake. Dr. G had patients write nice things about her. So barring that I have only had 1 visit, I would recommend her.
She is very caring and understanding. She listens very carefully and spends enough time to understand a problem.
She is great
