Getting to know Dr. James Fiske

James T. Fiske has worked as a psychiatric nurse practitioner since 2020, after obtaining his graduate degree from the University of Arizona with honors and then passing the board exam. He worked as an outpatient provider for homeless people with a history of substance abuse and other comorbid psychiatric conditions. He later and currently works as a crisis provider with over a year of experience in that field. After completing his doctorate, he briefly enrolled into the Georgetown University certificate FNP program for a semester where he honorably completed courses in the ethics and professional practice of advanced nursing practitioners. The relevance of the latter is his concern about always ensuring that every interaction with patients meets the highest standard. His practice philosophy is that active listening and asking the right therapeutic questions in a non-threatening manner are the keys to obtaining critical information relevant for treatment. With his current experience as a crisis provider, he brings to his practice the calm that is reassuring for patients seeking therapeutic solutions to their problems. He does not just prescribe medications but will take the time to provide psychoeducation that guarantees that all his patients are consciously compliant with treatment because all their questions and doubts have been answered. In addition to his professional life, James takes time off with family and to fellowship with his local church. He is an avid traveler and enjoys the opportunity to interact with people of different cultures both in the United States and abroad. Some of his hobbies include spending time reading current evidence-based publications to continue remaining updated about the latest treatment modalities. Other than reading, he loves the entertainment of television and radio.
