Getting to know Katlyn Bowman
Hi! I am Katlyn Bowman, Doctorate in Nursing Practice, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Yes, it's a mouthful. I believe in meeting people wherever they are in their path towards better wellness. Our sessions usually consistent of checking in on current life stressors/events, lifestyle modifications, and medications.
My approach
I often use a patient-centered care model and cognitive behavioral therapy techniques. I truly believe it is important for patients to understand why they feel how they do, what we can do about it, and how we can help move towards better wellness.
My focus
I have experience with a variety of clients. I have inpatient mental health care experience as well as outpatient mental health experiences. I feel comfortable treating depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, PTSD, and OCD.
My communication style
I typically let my client dictate the tone of our sessions based off of current life stressors and mood. I find that my patients trust me and appreciate my ability to walk and guide them through their mental health concerns.
My journey to mental healthcare
I chose to enter the mental health field when I decided to become a nurse. I had a close family member who struggled with addiction and experienced first hand the impact this had on her loved ones. I truly believe every human deserves a space to be themselves in anyway they need to be, free of judgement and safe. I strive to provide that space.
My goals for you
We often will set goals within our first 2-3 sessions. We will utilize S.M.A.R.T goal format and check in on goals every 3 months.
My first session with you
Our first session will comprise of a significant amount of talking and sharing. We will determine current symptoms, review past mental health history, medical history, family history, and previous medication trials. Though we have a lot to cover, it will feel as if you're talking to a friend.
