About Dr. James Flood

Dr. James P. Flood, DPM, is a board-certified Podiatrist and Foot & Ankle Surgeon serving patients in Arlington Heights, Des Plaines, and Wauconda, IL. After serving as Chief of Podiatric Surgery at Irwin Army Hospital during the Iraq conflict, he founded First Step Foot Care in 1991 to provide expert treatment for foot and ankle conditions in the Tri-County area. During his military service with the U.S. Army’s First Infantry Division, Dr. Flood specialized in reconstructive foot and ankle surgery and earned both the Paratrooper Badge and the Expert Field Medical Badge. He later served as Chief of Podiatric Surgery at Northwest Community Hospital and currently contributes to medical education as a clinical instructor at Advocate/Aurora Lutheran General Hospital. Dr. Flood offers both surgical and conservative treatment options, with a special interest in running injuries stemming from his background as a collegiate cross-country and track athlete. Outside of his medical career, he enjoys fitness, sports, and time with his wife and three children. He values direct communication and evidence-based care, striving to deliver excellent outcomes through a compassionate, patient-centered approach.
