More about Dr. Jerome Friedland, MD
Jerome R. Friedland, M.D., completed his undergraduate studies in his native state of New York, then traveled abroad to study medicine. After medical school, he moved to California and completed his internship at Long Beach Memorial Hospital. Following a surgical residency at Nassau Community Hospital in New York, he served a three-and-a-half year orthopedic residency at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Returning to Southern California, he became a team physician for the Los Angeles Raiders as an associate of Dr. Robert Rosenfeld.
In 1978, he traveled to Linkoping University in Sweden to study with Drs. Oretorp, Hagberg, and Gillquist who were the pioneers of knee joint arthroscopic surgery. Dr. Friedland brought these specialist instruments and techniques to Southern California, being one of the first doctors to perform this less-invasive procedure on traumatic injuries. In 1979, Dr. Friedland started his own practice in Northridge adjacent to Northridge Hospital Medical Center. In 1987, he built and opened Orthopedic Medical Center in Reseda, bringing together top professionals for the purpose of diagnosing and treating orthopedic injuries.
Dr. Friedland's special areas of expertise are arthroscopy of the knee and shoulder, joint replacement, and sports injuries of all types. He is very active in the International College of Surgeons, and has been certified by the Arthroscopy Board of North America and the American Academy of Neurological Orthopedic Surgery. He is also a member of the Los Angeles County, California, and American Medical Associations. He is a Qualified Medical Examiner (Q.M.E.), and an Agreed Medical Examiner (A.M.E.) for the State of California Industrial Medical Council, Department of Industrial Relations.

Staff was friendly. After I filled out my paperwork, I was brought in within 5 minutes. Including x-rays, my whole appointment took about 20 minutes. He listened to everything I said and with the help of the x-rays, we'll proceed from here. So far, extremely satisfied.

I would not recommend this physician. I went to this practice to have lingering sports injuries checked out. My goal was to heal these past injuries in order to work out and be active again. After telling the doctor I have been less active due to my injuries, he suggested I completely stop any physical activity and that I was "doing too much." I made clear that these injuries are from 15+ years ago, not anything recent. He didn't seem to understand or grasp this. He offered no help and I left feeling like the whole appointment was a waste of time. Adding insult to injury, he made me sign an arbitration agreement prior to the examination. Overall very bad experience.

A bit brusque but friendly and to the point. Immediately called for X-rays and administered a steroid shot on-site and I walked out with an NSAID script and a plan for a follow-up. I didn't expect such an immediate and comprehensive treatment plan, but I'm very satisfied I got one.

I've known Dr Friedland for about 35 years. He was the go-to orthopedist for most of the staff at Northridge hospital, including the ER staff of which I was member, for most of those years. This was because he was not only a technically excellent orthopedist, but also a friendly, warm and caring person. He is still that person.
I highly recommend him.
