Getting to know John Kubai

As a provider, I take my time with people. I want to understand who they are, what they’ve lived through, and what they’re carrying when they walk into the room. I listen closely to my patients—their stories, their silences, and the emotions that sit between the lines. Together, we build treatment plans that feel personal and practical, balancing medication, therapy, and education so the approach makes sense for their life. My military experience shaped a lot of how I practice. It taught me that strength isn’t always loud and that real support starts with truly hearing someone before offering guidance. It showed me how to stay steady in difficult moments and to notice the person behind the symptoms—their resilience, their fears, and the parts of their story they may not have words for yet. I work to create a space where people feel safe, understood, and empowered in their care. My hope is that every patient leaves knowing they were heard and supported on their path forward.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I’d want a new client to know that I show up with genuine curiosity and respect. As a provider, I don’t rush people or try to fit them into a formula. I spend time getting to know who they are beyond their symptoms—how they think, what they value, what they’ve been through, and what they hope will change. I listen closely and ask questions that help us make sense of things together. Treatment isn’t something I hand over; it’s something we build side by side. We talk through options, whether that’s medication, therapy approaches, or practical strategies, and make sure the plan feels comfortable and doable. My military background shaped a lot of this. It taught me how to stay calm in tough moments, how to read what isn’t always said out loud, and how to create a space where people feel safe enough to be honest. I bring that steadiness into the room so clients don’t have to carry everything alone. What you can expect from me is someone who pays attention, keeps things grounded, and treats you like a whole person—not a diagnosis. You’ll always be heard, and we’ll move at a pace that feels right for you.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I usually start by getting to know you as a person, not just the problems that brought you in. In our first meeting, we talk about what’s been going on, what you’ve tried so far, and what you hope will feel different. I ask questions, but I’m just as focused on listening—your tone, your pace, the places you hesitate. Those details help me understand where you are and what kind of support will actually help. From there, we build a plan together. I’ll walk you through options—medication, therapy approaches, lifestyle shifts, or a mix—and we’ll decide what feels right for you. I try to keep things collaborative and steady. Nothing gets pushed on you, and we check in regularly to make sure the plan still fits. My military background shows up in the way I work. I’m calm under pressure, clear in my communication, and patient when things feel messy or overwhelming. I’ve learned that trust is built slowly and that people open up when they feel safe, not rushed. As we move forward, we keep an open line of communication. We talk about what’s improving, what isn’t, and how you’re feeling about the process itself. The goal is always the same: to help you feel supported, understood, and in control of your own path.
