More about Dr. Julius Shulman, MD

Dr. Julius Shulman, is a board certified ophthalmologist and Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology who has performed over 10,000 ophthalmic surgical procedures since completing his residency in 1975 at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City. An early interest in cataract surgery led Dr. Shulman to pioneer the first cataract and intraocular lens implant operation at Mt. Sinai. His first book, Cataracts, The Complete Guide (Simon and Schuster, 1984, revised St. Martin's Press, 1993) won a Bronze National Health Information Award in 1994. In 1986 Dr. Julius Shulman became one of the first physicians in New York to perform surgery to correct nearsightedness. The development of the excimer laser has revolutionized the correction of nearsightedness, astigmatism and farsightedness, and now Laser Vision Correction has become a main area of concentration in his practice. Dr. Shulman's second book, No More Glasses (iUniverse, 2007), reflects the goal of modern laser vision correction and has been completely revised to include the latest advances in laser technology.

I felt totally comfortable . The staff was professional. They had lovely coffee if you wanted it. I was happy to see that Dr Schulman was considered an expert on various television news shows about Lasik surgery!

Verified patient
Went for a Lasik consultation. He talked me out of it (relative value for my eyesight). So basically - he was completely honest!

Verified patient
the staff was nice. Dr. Shulman saw me for about 5 minutes. His assistants had done the previous exams. he was cordial and looks experienced. the equipment seems old and dated.

Excellent attentive care as usual, waiting time was a bit long (I was first seen by the technician at 12:25 pm for a 12pm appointment, I had come at 11:55)
Verified patient
I was impressed with the efficiency with which the office was run. I saw several different technicians as well as the Dr's assistants in addition to my time with him, and they all knew their jobs and moved along well. Dr. Shulman took time to understand my history and to explain his plan of treatment which I appreciated. I feel hopeful about my situation and I'm very glad I chose Dr. Shulman.

It is a very busy office and needed to wait before I saw tech and then again before I saw DR Shulman. Total time was truly 2 hours from moment I arrived til I arrived at d/c desk. There is wifi. Coffee and cookies to sustain your wait. I was extremely satisfied with all eye care professionals, evaluation and treatment plan. Yes, I am continuing my care with DR Shulman .

Excellent, terrific staff, highly recommended
He was great.
I have used this Dr for many years as I have an eye problem that needs to be followed/ However I have never had an on time appointment. I was taken at 11:20 for a 9:30 Am appointment the excuse was that they had a lot of emergencies this is the same excuse they give me every time I am n. when I complained the Dr. he asked me to yell at his staff at front desk. I explained they were not at fule if he permitted them to book in extra appointments. no staff can do so without the dr's permission. There were 15 people in the waiting room, with only 2 eye drs in the office.

Very thorough.

I used to be a patient of Dr. Shulman for about 8 years. I would usually go to the UES office - although there was a wait of 15-20 minutes, the staff was excellent. Over the years, Dr. Shulman's service dropped from good to "eh," but the wonderful staff always drew me back. During my last visit, I decided to try the downtown office. Big mistake. I waited 45 minutes to see the staff member and then another 45 minutes for the doctor. There was an emergency with another patient but Shulman did not handle it well or apologize appropriately. So, I am looking for a new ophthalmologist.
Best eye doctor ever. Hands down.
My second visit after my long term ophthamologist relocated. Conservative approach to cataract surgery, which I will need. I feel I can build up another long term, trusting relationship as we continue to go forward.
Perfect
Contrary to what my long-time eye doctor told me, DR. Shulman told me I could wait for a 6 month follow-up before deciding if cataract surgery was warranted. He is very pleasant and certainly not a "salesman"; My other eye MD (who I will no longer use!), told me I needed the surgery right away. Dr. Shulman was recommended by a friend & I am glad that I made the appt.
Excellent in every way
