About Dr. Richard Koplin

Dr. Koplin has been a board-certified ophthalmologist for more than 40 years and has honed his diagnostic and surgical skills aided by his quest for problem-solving on a large scale. Long before he developed one of the largest and most highly respected – and innovation-driven – ophthalmic diagnostic and eye surgical practices in New York City, he began his problem-solving quest as an undergraduate at Lafayette College where he invented a complete latex track shoe that he used to break the school’s 100-yard dash record – a record that stood for almost six years. Today, Dr. Koplin’s zeal to improve and make safer and more effective cataract surgery is supported by this same quest for innovation. His patented inventions utilized to confront challenging cataract surgery are studied worldwide. Dr. Koplin researches, publishes, and lectures domestically and internationally. He is the holder or co-holder of more than 15 patents, many of which are used day-to-day in his clinical-diagnostic practice as well as in surgery – including those related to cataracts and LASIK. Dr. Koplin and his wife (his college sweetheart) have a deep appreciation and love of family- time which includes hefty allotments of attention to their recently married daughter (actress) and son (attorney) – along with their two extraordinary grandchildren. Dr. Koplin’s wife participates regularly in the support program at Ronald McDonald House (where she has been cited for her 15 years of dedication). She also sits on the board of Foster Pride, a New York City Foundation assisting foster children in need.
