Justin G. Steele, MD, general surgeon, is the director of robotic abdominal wall reconstruction at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, and an assistant professor of clinical surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine. Dr. Steele was amazing. He calmed my nerves regarding my issue and assured me it was a simple procedure. His honesty was appreciated. My appointment was around 45 minutes including wait time and getting all my questions answered and the staff was very nice. Overall it was a great experience.

I was attended very quickly upon arrival (filled out all forms required online and I called to make sure they received my doctor’s referral). Dr. Steele attended my concerns and explain what I would expect from surgery and recovery. Highly recommend this practice and all their friendly staff.

Dr. Steele put my mind at ease knowing that he had a plan to rectify my post inguinal hernia surgery nerve pain problem. My entire experience was a very pleasant one from the greeting of the office staff to the intake, nurse, and the rest of the staff.
Dr. Steele devoted his entire attention to me listening to me with empathy and is a great bedside manner. I would recommend any of my family or friends to Dr. Steele.

Dr. Steele is fine, he is supremely confident in his robotic process and I am sure is an excellent surgeon. My negative experience was primarily about everything around the brief window where I spoke to him.
I went to him for a surgery consult for a hernia, as I did with other surgeons, gauging what steps I wanted to take at the direction of my GP. At Dr. Steele's office, there were 5x the hoops to jump through just to speak with him. Even though it was just a surgical consult, I was given a full workup of measurements from blood pressure to height and weight with a nurse. I asked why during as I said, "this is only a consult, I don't want to get charged for a sick visit with my insurance, won't all of this work justify that?" They then stopped and then immediately sent in an NP who asked all the diagnostic questions that other surgeons just asked me themselves. Even though I asked the nurse to stop, I STILL got charged as though I was there for a check-up later. I had to fight with insurance and the office to solve it.
Finally, and this was the most frustrating part, I was very clear that I was still deciding on what to do and did not want to move forward yet when aI left, but soon found out via phone calls from the hospital that I had been booked a surgery date and needed to come in for pre-surgical testing! I had to tell multiple people at his office and the hospital that I had not booked surgery and given the experience with the consult I was worried I was going to get charged for "canceling" something I never booked. All in all it made my decision to go in another direction extremely clear.
