I chose medicine because I like to help others. After earning my Bachelor’s degree from Hampton University, I attended the University of Southern California, where I received my Doctor of Medicine. I completed my internship and residency in Family Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University. I chose family medicine in particular because I enjoy the continuity of care that comes with the specialty. I treat patients of all ages and life stages, acting as an advocate for my patients. I present treatment options and, after going over the risks and benefits of each, work with the patient to decide on the best course of action.

I love that I was able to make a SUNDAY appointment. What made it better was that I was seen quickly and the staff was friendly. The phelbotomist was amazing! She was able to draw blood with one painless stick and I have tiny veins!

I recently moved and retired to Lexington North Carolina. I went to Dr. Karla Smith to get a physical and to establish myself with a primary doctor. As a recently retired 42 year RN, I was so impressed with the efficiency and communication of all the staff as well as Dr. Smith. I have an extensive medical history and they took the time to listen and record all of it. My physical exam was very thorough and done in a professional and competent manner. This is a top notch organization and I am very grateful to have found them.

The staff was so friendly. The doctor was nice but somehow I felt rushed. The Doctor had many other patients she was trying to accommodate at the same exact time.Total amount of wait time till I actually saw the doctor was an hour and ten minutes. The bathroom was disgusting!!

My new patient visit was good but Doctor Smith seemed rush. All of the people I came in contact with during the visit were really nice including Dr Smith so I decided to give it another try since my initial visit was on a Sunday. My follow up appointment was on a weekday early morning and again staff very nice and accommodating but the Dr seemed rushed and that probably has to do with the constraints insurance companies have on visits regardless I won’t schedule appointments with Dr Smith because I take my health seriously and need a provider that actually has time to listen and address my concerns besides having a great bedside manner.

I have never felt more heard by a doctor before. She listened, was empathetic, didn’t dismiss my issues, and followed up with a treatment plan I was comfortable with. She is amazing and I will keep coming back to her. She made me feel like I finally found a doctor who is willing to be patient and hear my concerns and also not just tell me they’re normal and to move on - like I have by so many other doctors. This visit was such a relief and was so refreshing. Her MAs were attentive as well and very professional. Booked a follow up in two weeks!
