Dr. Katerina Valavanis, MD

Family Physician
1251 S Cedar Crest Blvd, Ste 102A, Allentown, PA
I think that when treating or helping people, one of the most important things to do is to listen carefully to what they have to say and what they have been experiencing. Also, I believe considering the "whole" person-their physical health, home and work environments, mental health, and other experiences-helps a great deal in deciphering the appropriate treatment and healing process. I chose medicine primarily for its commitment to serve others. I knew I would enjoy a profession that involved interaction with people daily, but also one that integrated the knowledge of the arts and sciences. Medical missions interested me very much. Whether locally or overseas, I was drawn to the idea of working with people of various backgrounds with the purpose of bettering their health and well-being. I earned my Bachelor's degree from Case Western Reserve University and my Doctor of Medicine from Pennsylvania State University. I completed my residency in Family Medicine at Saint Vincent Hospital. Being able to volunteer as a physician has helped me gain perspective both as a clinician and an individual. I have had the opportunity to visit different community clinics and shelters during medical school and residency training. A very rewarding experience I had more recently included visiting a home for teenage girls weekly to discuss their physical and mental well-being in a teaching series. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. We often enjoy being outdoors or visiting each other in different towns and cities. We also very much enjoy cultural events and festivals, learning about other cultures and celebrating our own.
