Getting to know Katherine Rondina

*After booking, you will receive a link via IntakeQ so you can complete required intake forms prior to your appointment* I’m a psychiatric nurse practitioner with a Master of Science in Nursing from Hunter College. My clinical journey has taken me from community-based care to telehealth, with each setting shaping how I connect with patients. At a community health center specializing in HIV treatment, I had the privilege of supporting many transgender patients through psychiatric evaluations ahead of gender-affirming surgery. Being part of those journeys was deeply meaningful and strengthened my commitment to inclusive, person-centered care. Later, I transitioned to telehealth, where I’ve come to value its ability to remove barriers to care, making mental health support accessible to those who might otherwise go without it. I believe in treating the whole person: looking beyond symptoms to understand each individual’s lifestyle, relationships, medical conditions, and personal history. I specialize in women’s mental health, including care throughout pregnancy, trauma and, PTSD, and gender dysphoria. I also treat a wide range of mental health conditions, including major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, OCD, ADHD, eating disorders, and substance use disorders. My approach incorporates evidence-based modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to address unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors; acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) to support living a meaningful life despite emotional pain; and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) for emotional regulation and interpersonal challenges. I also integrate whole-person care strategies such as mindfulness, meditation, and herbal supplements when appropriate. Outside of work, I find joy in quiet moments through nature, creativity, or time spent with loved ones. My passion for breaking stigma and expanding access to compassionate mental health care is what motivates me every day.

What should a new client know about working with you?

When we work together, my goal is to really understand who you are beyond the diagnosis or symptom list. I approach every patient interaction with warmth, kindness, and genuine curiosity. Whether you're managing a chronic condition, adjusting to a life change, or just starting to explore your mental health, I'll meet you where you are. My approach is gentle, respectful, and collaborative. I focus on your strengths as much as your struggles. We'll look at the full picture—your current symptoms, routines, physical health, relationships, and personal values—to build a realistic treatment plan that aligns with your goals. I respect your autonomy and always aim to make care feel safe, inclusive, and empowering. I especially welcome individuals who may have felt dismissed or misunderstood by the mental health system. I'm experienced in working with LGBTQIA+ patients, young adults, and women navigating pregnancy or postpartum changes, and I create a space that honors your lived experience.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

During our first few sessions, I’ll take the time to get to know you. That means we’ll talk through your mental health history, medical background, lifestyle, and anything else important to understanding your world. Together, we’ll clarify what you’re hoping to get out of care, whether that’s feeling more grounded, addressing specific symptoms, or working through a complex life transition. From there, I’ll offer treatment options that could include medication, talk therapy techniques, or integrative approaches like mindfulness or herbal support. I use the biopsychosocial model, which means I consider biological factors, psychological experiences, and social context when making recommendations. Follow-up sessions are a chance to check in, make adjustments, and continue building trust. Some days that might mean reviewing a medication response; other days, it might mean exploring patterns or stressors in your life. The structure is flexible but always focused on what’s most helpful to you. I want you to feel seen, heard, and supported at every step.
