About Kathleen Vandegiessen
I am Kathy Vande Giessen a certified nurse midwife of 15+ years with a Masters degree in Nursing (MSN). I also earned a Masters Degree in Business (MBA).
Prior to my Midwifery education, I was a labor and delivery registered nurse (RN), for 20 years. I am also a certified Lamaze/International childbirth educator. My experiences in the labor room during these years have brought me to my current place in life meeting the physical and emotional needs of birthing families.
I am equally commited to serving the needs of all women with contraception, STD diagnosis and treatment, annual exams, and menopause issues.
I married Jack in 1967. We have three children and 9 grandchildren. After 40 years and several transfers around the country with his work, we are now settled permanently in Houston to focus on my career.

This will be my first all natural birth experience. She listen to me about my first birth experience with my first child and just made me feel super comfortable and listen too. She made sure I knew what I was going to experience and how exciting natural birth is and also how relaxing it's going to be. She is super funny and definitely knows how to break the ice!

I have worked with this office before and had an amazing experience with prenatal care and my birthing experience. I expect another wonderful experience.
I enjoyed Midwife Kathy's knowledge, the kindness of the medical staff, and the way I was asked to prepare for my birthing experience from my first appointments. I also very much appreciate the recommendations for other helpful services. Working with Joanna Zepeda was paramount in preparing my mind to give birth! It's all mental, if you can control your thoughts and how you respond to your body's instructions, birthing can be a breeze and painless! I am a witness.
I truly enjoyed the atmosphere I was allowed to create for the birth of my daughter it was calming and just felt so natural, I love the homey feeling plus the extra oomph of having certified trained professionals nearby. I am not certain I could have imagined a better first-time birthing experience. I didn't have pain I can say I enjoyed labor and delivery!

Stacy (not sure of her title,) was great. She was compassionate and really seemed like she wanted to be helpful. The actual provider, Dr. Kathleen, was dismissive. I explained to her what I was going through and she made it seem as though it was not an issue and everything would be fine despite my repeating how it wasn’t. And the woman at the front desk seemed incredulous at the fact that this is my first pregnancy and actually commented on it. The experience, aside from Stacy, was just offensive and I will not be returning.

So far I love Kathy! She's really down to earth and reminds me that birthing is a natural process, there is nothing to fear. I've only seen her twice but I really enjoy my prenatal visits. Her birthing center has a few rooms with bathrooms, tubs, birthing balls and beds that look like home beds, not hospital beds. Her energy is very relaxed. She answers all my questions happily. She also introduced me to a doula who I really like. :)
