Getting to know Kelsey Castroverde

Kelsey Castroverde, PMHNP-BC, is a board-certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner dedicated to helping individuals better understand their minds and reclaim a sense of control over their mental health. She earned her psychiatric nurse practitioner degree from Vanderbilt University and graduated Valedictorian from Florida State University’s College of Nursing. Kelsey has a particular passion for working with individuals experiencing chronic pain, informed by her own lived experience with debilitating pain and recovery. She understands the emotional burden that often accompanies chronic pain, including anxiety, depression, and fear, and integrates this understanding into every aspect of her care. Her approach is grounded in science and collaboration. Kelsey enjoys teaching patients how the brain and nervous system work so symptoms feel less mysterious and more manageable. By combining education, empathy, and evidence-based treatment, she helps patients feel empowered, resilient, and more confident in navigating life’s challenges.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with me is collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in science. I believe you are the expert on your own lived experience, and my role is to support, guide, and walk alongside you—not to rush or talk over you. I take time to truly listen and understand the full picture of what you’re experiencing. I focus on helping you make sense of your symptoms by explaining how the brain and nervous system work, so things feel less confusing and more manageable. My goal is for you to feel informed, empowered, and actively involved in your care. Our work together is practical and individualized. We move at a pace that feels right for you, and treatment may include thoughtful medication management, education, and therapeutic strategies when appropriate. I strive to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where you feel heard, supported, and more confident in your ability to navigate life and mental health challenges.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We start with a comprehensive initial visit focused on understanding you as a whole person. I take time to learn about your symptoms, history, goals, and what brings you in, while also answering any questions you may have. This first appointment is about building a foundation of trust and creating a shared understanding of what you’re experiencing. From there, we develop a personalized treatment plan together. This may include education about how the brain and nervous system work, therapeutic strategies, and medication management when appropriate. I believe in collaboration and transparency, so you’ll always understand the reasoning behind recommendations and have an active voice in your care. Follow-up visits are used to check in on progress, adjust treatment as needed, and continue building skills and insight over time. We move at a pace that feels right for you, with the goal of helping you feel more empowered, supported, and confident in managing your mental health.
