Ms. Penny is a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who earned her Master's in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing from Adelphi University and her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Chatham University. She is passionate about helping her clients achieve their mental health goals and live their best lives. KerryAnn has a strong understanding of mental health disorders and is able to effectively diagnose and treat them. She assists her patients in pursuing healing by conducting comprehensive psychiatric assessments and focusing on her clients’ interpretation of optimal health.
With over 11 years of nursing experience, she is skilled in perioperative care, intensive care, and behavioral health. She has worked in a variety of settings, including residential treatment, inpatient hospitals, and outpatient community mental health centers, serving children, adolescents, and adult patients. Ms. Penny treats a wide range of mental health conditions, including anxiety and depressive disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and psychosis, sleep disorders, and PTSD.
What should a new client know about working with you?
Ms. Penny believes the patient-provider relationship is one that develops with trust and understanding. She comes into each new patient session without background influence and will meet you exactly where you are, in order to help you learn and grow in your mental health journey.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
During your first appointment, you will meet with Ms. Penny for up to sixty minutes for a full psychiatric evaluation. At the end of your new patient evaluation, you will be scheduled for your first follow up session. Follow up sessions last up to twenty minutes and are scheduled based on your symptoms and the length of time needed to appropriately address your concerns

Stay away from Kerryann and anyone in this practice if you value being listened to and treated right or you are queer. I was with her for months of not being listened to until she decided to dump me with an even worse psychiatric from their practice named Lucio Gonzalez, who was just rude and super unprofessional. He called me "dude" during our meeting which was just odd and unprofessional considering I'm a transgender woman, and expected me to be better after 2 fifteen minute sessions with him and only making one change with my medication and not even asking about it in the next appointment. Such a waste of time being with this practice. 0/5 please avoid.

I've had one appointment so far with Kerry Ann Penny and she struck me as a smart, experienced, intuitive, and thoughtful professional. She listened to me kindly and took my history and symptoms into account before prescribing me a low dose of medication. She seems knowledgeable and open to continuing to evaluate how to treat me based on my reaction to the medication, and she offered me an additional resource to help me work through whether I may have ADHD. Overall she seemed cautious, knowledgeable, and professional.

I would absolutely recommend DNP Penny. My appointment with DNP Penny was wonderful. She arrived on time, was professional, kind, and attentive. I went to her after my therapist recommended I speak to a psychiatrist about being screened for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). After being asked a series of questions, discussing my mental health history, and current medication, DNP Penny was able to diagnoses me with OCD. After the diagnosis, she discussed medication options recommended a medication based on my health/side effect concerns and explained the rationale behind her choice. She even gave me further clarification about my current medication how it was treating my depression rather than my anxiety. The appointment lasted for about an hour. Once again, would absolutely recommend DNP Penny.

Dr. Penny is amazing, humble as she asked me to call her Kerryann, and super knowledgeable in the field of psychiatry. As an FNP myself I felt so secure in her care, she is also kind and personable while being an amazing provider, I wish she did full-time therapy as well as she is such a good listener and offers advice that is not necessary for medication. Pick her you won't be disappointed.

I have seen many psychiatric providers in the past and as a person who is very familiar with psychiatry, I was very impressed with her assessment skills, the questions she asked, and how thorough she was in her assessment, I did not feel rushed, and her unwillingness to just throw out stimulants which seems to be what most providers these days do when one says "I cannot focus" I can tell she is in it for the right reasons because she does care about her patients and offers them appropriate treatment. Her reviews speak for themselves which is why I picked her to begin however I can definitely see some patients being unhappy with her as she does not throw around controlled substances just for fun and just because a patient wants it. Kerryann I feel so lucky to have met you, I know that you hold my best interests in heart and looking forward to our future meetings
