I liked him personally. He seemed to speak very fast, and I had trouble keeping up, but he knew I was in a hurry for my husband's appointment. I like that he was frank and gave me a lot of information.

Talked down to me like I was a young child, called 3 times and no one answered. Told me it was an inconvenience to him that I couldn't find the building he didn't give instructions how to find. Cant talk to a paying patient like that.

Dr Matalon spent close to two hours talking to me and understanding my problems, including a fair portion of his lunch hour. This alone catapults him high up there with the best in my opinion as most doctors today are focussedon their own “work life balance” and won’t spend a minute more than they absolutely have to. I am just starting my treatment so I can’t yet say honestly about the plan he put together for me, but a good initial screening is half the cure, so I will rate him with all the stars I got.

Dr.Matalon is professional only if you have some basic understanding of how they work. He is not a counselor so no expectations on him to be a listener of your miserable experiences. His prescription is useful: my symptoms relieved a lotthe first day I took the medication. A few things: 1) this doctor does not have a receptionist, so your treatment will be interrupted a lot if someone keeps ringing the bell. 2) same problem, because he does not have receptionist, he’ll need to charge you first before starting the treatment. Don’t feel uncomfortable, you pay your co-pay in the hospital too, to the receptionist. It is awkward tho. 3) this doctor does not use computer to prescribe medication. So when you go the pharmacy, the pharmacist might misread his prescription. Only recommend this doctor if you are willing to get medication treatment. If you need counseling, go to a counselor.

My visit was outstanding. I went in small gleam of hope and came out with an enormous positive outlook that things are finally going to change for me. Dr. Leor was everything that other patients said he would be. He tooka thorough background on history that no one else had in the past in which enabled him to take an accurate diagnosis.

Dr. Matalon was very thorough and took his time asking the right questions. I felt listened to and for the first time in a long time, I have hope. I’m looking forward to our follow up! Unfortunately, I’ve seen too manydoctors who’ll write prescriptions before letting me finish a sentence. If you’re looking for a doctor who will actually listen to you and figure out what medication changes are in your best interest, I highly recommend Dr. Matalon.

In order to leave a more accurate assessment, I waited after a few months of seeing Dr. Matalon to leave this review. First time consultations tend to be great with doctors, and Zocdoc reviews consequently tend to be positively inflated asthey ask for a review right after the appointment has ended. I'm glad I did because although my initial visits with Dr. Matalon were satisfactory, my follow up meetings were awful, to say the least. For some perspective, look at his HealthGrades profile if you get the chance, or even his Yelp profile. Dr. Matalon was okay within the first consultation but in follow up appointments it became glaringly apparent how disengaged and uninterested he was. He was constantly checking his phone (which he NEVER put on vibrate/silent) and barely seemed to remember prior interactions, even after looking through his notes. Additionally, he was constantly late in beginning our appointments, letting prior appointments spill over, and would often cut sessions short in order to compensate for his now lagging schedule. The last straw: He told me he would be right with me while letting in a couple ahead of me, just before my appointment. After an hour of waiting in the waiting room and ringing his doorbell, I left his office livid, having wasted an hour. He then gave me a call ten minutes after I had left and left me a voicemail accusing me of coming late to my appointment. After confirming with his scheduling assistant that I indeed did come at my scheduled time and that it was a mistake on his end, he refused to accept his mistake and docked me a cancellation fee. I understand doctors can have their off days, and that bedside manner is something that is hard to maintain, but it is clear that Dr. Matalon gives priority to potentially new patients and starts to frankly not care about you as a patient. There is a reason why he is consistently the most available psychiatrist on Zocdoc in the SD area. He is in network with a lot of carriers, and available on Zocdoc quite often (for obvious reasons) but I would stay away if possible.

I tried to hate him, I really did. When I had my first appointment with the doctor I was in a really bad place emotionally. I was deeply depressed and at the end of my rope so to speak. After talkingto the doctor I started to appreciate his straightforward approach, willingness to educate me on my illness, and how he explained what he recommended and why. I really needed a psychiatrist without all the fluff who is willing to tell me like it is and that's exactly what I got with Dr Matalon. He is definitely worth the 1 hour drive.

I was able to schedule an appointment right away. Dr. Matalon scheduled a quick follow up to check on my medication adjustments. He evaluated my current and past medical history to make sure my medications are safe to take. My concernswere addressed right away. I felt that he was logical and understanding by listening to what has, and what has not worked with me in the past.
