This was my first in-person doctor's appointment in over a year since the pandemic. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the office as well as their COVID-19 precautions. The seats in the waiting area were far away enough to be socially distanced, there was hand sanitizers in the office and mask required by everyone in the office. The staff was friendly and professional. Dr. Barkan was amazing and made me feel comfortable.

Dr. Barkan graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of California, Los Angeles with a B.S. degree in Mathematics, Applied Sciences and attended medical school at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She did her Internship in Internal Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx followed by two years of Emergency Medicine at Mount Sinai. She then completed her Internal Medicine Residency at NYU Langone Hospital in New York.
Dr. Barkan is a board certified General Internist with special interests in Preventative Medicine, management of chronic health conditions, Women's Health, Substance Abuse and Eating Disorders. She is one of the first Internists for Mt. Sinai providing Primary Care in Brooklyn. Her main goal is to engage patients and provide the highest quality of care. She believes in comprehensive and personalized care helping each individual to take a proactive approach to living a healthy lifestyle. She is also fluent in Spanish, which make her accessible to patients from a variety of cultural backgrounds.

The Dr. was good and communicated effectively. However, very difficult to obtain my required medications and for Dr. to follow through with any pre-authorizations. Very difficult to reach office staff as Service seems to be always answering office phone number.

Dr. Barkan was nice and very knowledgeable. However I went for a regular physical (well visit), and ended up with a bill for charges my insurance didn’t cover. I didn’t get anything done that I haven’t been getting done during physicals for the past 10 years or so and have never had to pay anything. After speaking with my insurance I was told it’s has something to do with coding the office used. There’s a reason why one well visit a year is no cost under almost all insurances for people! So I am not sure of the trustworthiness of this office because if they can find ways to squeeze money out of patients for a physical, imagine if something is actually wrong what your bills may look like. And these medical offices know the average individual doesn’t understand these things or thoroughly review their bills and take advantage of that. Such a shame especially during these difficult times! I will be looking elsewhere for continued medical attention.

Completely average intake appointment. An adequately in-depth history was taken. She referred to appropriate specialists but didn't do a focused assessment of her own nor was there much discussion regarding preventative care.

I have been searching for a personable/ kind PCP for too long. Dr. Barkan exceeded my hopes. Office staff was warm and kind. I left feeling like I am finally being listened to and taken care of. I highly recommend this office.
