Dr. Gayle earned his medical degree at the New York University School of Medicine in New York City. He completed a residency and chief residency in general surgery at NYU/Booth Memorial Medical Center in Queens, New York. He went on to complete a residency in Plastic Surgery at Cornell University Medical Center and a fellowship in Hand and Microsurgery at the Buncke Clinic in San Francisco, California. Dr. Gayle is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a Diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners. Active in several research and clinical endeavors, Dr. Gayle has a special interest in the restoration of the breast following mastectomy utilizing the full gamut of surgical techniques currently available. These include the anatomically shaped, highly cohesive, silicone gel-filled breast implants currently being investigated at several centers throughout the country and autologous breast reconstruction utilizing microvascular techniques such as DIEP and SGAP flaps. Dr. Gayle has had articles published in several peer reviewed journals, including Annals of Plastic Surgery, Clinics in Plastic Surgery and Microsurgery. His areas of interest and research have spanned lower extremity reconstruction, replantation, outcome evaluations following breast reconstruction, and applications for fibrin sealant. Dr. Gayle is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Royal Society of Medicine.
