A graduate of Stanford University, Dr. Lucia Tuffanelli received her medical degree at the Medical College of Wisconsin. She pursued a residency in Internal Medicine at a University of California Davis affiliate, and later a Dermatology Residency at the State University of New York, Downstate. Certified as a fellow of the American Board of Dermatology since 1989, she has enthusiastically practiced dermatology for over twenty years. Her areas of interest lie within pediatric and adult medical dermatologic problems, wound care and skin cancer exams and prevention.

I saw Dr. Tuffanelli recently, as my prior dermatologist had relocated.
Dr. Tuffanelli didn't take sufficient time to understand my concerns, and jumped right into prescribing medications.
She let out multiple exasperated sighs during the course of my appointment and was generally dismissive. Her comments made me feel as though I was to blame for my condition.
I asked her about her day in an effort to build rapport, but her surly attitude persisted.
She was also casually racist, but in a way that was subtle. I can't disclose the specifics, but her comments amounted to same effect as saying "you people."
I probably wouldn't recommend visiting her if you're a POC.
Having seen other dermatologists over the years, trust me, there are better ones out there! Skip the microaggressions and lack of bedside manner. And the unprofessional receptionist.

Dr. Tuffanelli is no nonsense and tough. She didn’t offer a hello or “nice to meet you” greeting. Just asked what was wrong and offered up treatment. Brash in her delivery and up-front. Quickly ushered me out after diagnosis and treatment options presented. No additional description of prescribed drugs and what they do. Dr. Tuffanelli is most likely one foot out the door given her demeanor. However she did get the job done.

I was seeing Dr. Tuffanelli for my annual skin check. Left the office with 6 prescriptions for other problems. Gruff manner, felt rushed, and was unfriendly. I will not be back.

Went in for an annual check-up as I had not been to a dermatologist in years. Absolutely the worst “exam” I have ever been given. Spent maybe 1 minute looking at my moles/skin and asked me repeatedly if I have a family history of skin cancer. Last I checked that’s a variable to consider not the only one. I understand that this is a busy office and I honestly don’t have great cause for concern but have been known to be lazy with the sunscreen and have had some severe burns in my past. As a doctor you should want to do your due diligence and give a meaningful exam rather than a rushed high level look. Will not be returning. Skin cancer is life and death and while I don’t have any family members who have died I’ve had 2 friends before 30 so maybe take care as a doctor and do your job instead of going through the motions.

I had to wait 30 minutes past my appointment time to get taken back to a room and had to wait overall 1 full hour past my appointment time before the doctor came into the room. It was a huge waste of time. The doctor then spent 5 minutes with me. I went in for an annual and it felt that she did not thoroughly check. Of course, I do not know if it should take more than 5 minutes to check for moles but compared to previous doctors, her review seemed faster and not as "caring".

Didn't have me on the book for their appointment because I rescheduled through Zocdoc but they took me anyway. Had to wait about 45 minutes to see the doctor. Exam was thorough and informative, though I did feel slightly rushed by the doctor.

Waited 40 min after my scheduled appointment time only to have her spend 5 min rushing through a recommendation for my problem area. Didn't explain what she was seeing, only that she'd prescribe me some topical treatment. I had to ask multiple questions to get her to explain what she thought the blemishes were. She should have taken the time to explain what she saw rather than quickly get to a prescription and on to the next patient. It was clear she was in a rush given how behind she was.
