Marcus Jang, PMHNP-BC, MS

Family Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
3911 N Buffalo St, Orchard Park, NY
Elyn Saks has said the humanity we share is more important than the mental illnesses we may not, and this is the guiding principle of my clinical practice and the cornerstone of my working relationship with you. Your success and happiness are rooted in the partnership we share. You do the hard part of being vulnerable; to the best of my ability, I will work to listen to and understand you before we develop a shared treatment plan. The extent to which we each do our part is the measure of our success. I offer medication management, crisis management, and psychotherapy, with extensive experience in anxiety/OCD, depression, mood disorders, attention deficit disorders, schizophrenia, and substance use disorders. I work primarily with adult populations but have been trained across the lifespan, from children and adolescents to geriatric patients. I transitioned into psychiatry from inpatient pulmonary and cardiac medicine as an ICU nurse for nearly a decade. I hold a Master’s in Nursing from the University of California, Los Angeles. Whether in my office or in the ICU at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, I place primacy on human dignity, and it is the lens through which I view every patient-provider encounter.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I value getting to know you as a patient. That means less talking from me, more listening to you. Asking you questions. While there are no shortcuts about this, it is the surest and shortest path to feeling better. I invest the time necessary, whether that is discussing medication, in therapy, or ideally, both.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My diagnostic process is a conversation. Your life is a story, fragmented maybe, but far more than a bundle of radio buttons. From your narrative, I arrive at a diagnosis, from which treatment options are discussed. At the end of the day, you have to feel good about and empowered with the plan forward for your betterment, medicine or not. This is what I am committed to.

I was having challenges getting prescribed medication due to pharmacy shortages. This care provider got upset and annoyed with me when I asked to transfer to different pharmacy. He kept saying he understands the challenges but never followed through with filling Rx. I had to keep reaching out to him and then he sent me a scolding email saying I have inappropriate behavior all while not keeping his word and transferring my Rx. I never received and now have to find new provider. I have email and text transcripts to prove his childish behavior. Complete waste of time.
