Margaret is a Board Certified Family Medicine physician, 5-Element Acupuncturist and Level III Reiki practitioner with a remarkable history as a physician and healer. The inspiration for her career came from a life-long inner calling to help and serve people. The inspiration to heed this calling came from two powerful women. The first was her mother, a true role model who devotedly served the poor and indigent as a community health nurse. The second was Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood and a pioneer in the areas of women's health and social justice.
Margaret began her career as a nurse, providing inner city home care to seriously ill patients in Chicago, serving on an AIDS / Hospice unit, and tending to sick children in Neonatal and Pediatric ICU settings. Inspired by the caring and knowledgeable physicians she encountered in these difficult care environments, Margaret decided to become a doctor herself.
She attended medical school at Loyola University in Chicago, and her residency was in Seattle's Providence Hospital. After completing training, Margaret's career paralleled those of her two heroes: four years at Planned Parenthood, along with a decade of dedication as a physician with underserved populations in community health centers. She witnessed firsthand the effects of racism, poverty, and indifference on the health of a community, and she has spent much of her career doing her part to serve those who most need her care. Margaret raised two sons as a single parent during this time. She has a unique perspective on the fortitude and resilience necessary to achieve one's goals. She is often found to say that parenting has been her greatest teacher.
