About Maria Layao

Maria Layao FNP-BC is a dedicated and compassionate nurse practitioner who cares for patients with Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, infectious colitis, GERD, Barrett’s esophagus, viral hepatitis, liver disease, and many other gastrointestinal diseases. She is able to evaluate patients, order diagnostic testing, and prescribe appropriate treatment for the spectrum of GI illnesses. She graduated from Shenandoah University with a degree in nursing in 2013. Maria worked as a Surgical Telemetry nurse at Inova Fairfax Hospital for six years, caring for patients post-GI surgeries and kidney transplants. She then spent two years as a cardiac nurse at Inova Loudoun Hospital before obtaining her Master’s in Family Health Nursing and Family Nurse Practitioner degree from Chamberlain University in 2021.
