About Dr. Marisa Mendes

I was born in New Jersey, right here at Clara Maass Hospital! I have lived here most of my life. My family is from Goa, India, (a former state of the Portuguese Empire), which is why my last name is Portuguese. I am only fluent in English but am currently trying to improve my Spanish language skills to communicate more with patients. I decided to go into medicine because I found science fascinating growing up and wanted to make a difference. I love working with little children and found my calling in pediatrics. I earned my Doctor of Medicine from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and completed my residency in pediatrics at the University of Maryland Medical Center. At Sanitas, every day is a good day because I get to work with children. A child's smile or laughter can brighten anyone’s day. I want you to know that at Sanitas, you will receive the highest quality care. Our priority is always your health and well-being. When I take off my white coat, I love spending time with my family and friends. I enjoy cooking, eating good food, and traveling.

Super friendly staff! The doctor was attentive and caring!

Dr. Mendes was very kind, patient, understanding, fantastic bedside manner - it's hard not to return to this doctor. However, I waited over 2 hours to be seen (The office told me to arrive 30 mins EARLY, only to be called 1.5 hours AFTER my appointment time). Severely inconvenient -I book early morning appointments to avoid this- however there was a mix-up in the office and they took another patient ahead of us. This is not unique to Dr. Mendes office, but Doctors need to recognize that patients and caregivers are working people too... and don't have endless hours to wait.
