He knows how to listen to his patients, his team is super efficient, I really enjoy my first appointment with him, he is very reassuring as well. He did my annual check-up like a boss;) I will keep him as my main gynecologyst and I highly recommend him!

More about Dr. Mark Akin, MD
Dr. Akin joined Austin Area Obstetrics, Gynecology & Fertility in 1983 and is the current President of the group. A native of Wichita Falls, Texas, he attended the University of Texas in Austin on a football scholarship, and received his Undergraduate and Master’s degrees with honors in Environmental Health Engineering and Biomedical Engineering, respectively. He then earned his medical degree from The University of Texas Southwestern School of Medicine in Dallas and completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas.
Dr. Akin has treated OB/GYN/Infertility patients in Central Texas for over 25 years and is one of the most respected physicians in the community. Through his leadership at Seton Medical Center, preventable birth injuries were reduced to zero. He is the only physician in Austin performing non-invasive uterine fibroid treatments with MRgFUS, and was the first surgeon to perform hysteroscopic Essure and Adiana female in-office sterilizations, as well as single incision laparocopic hysterectomies. He is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology and is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology. He is also a member of the Texas Association of Obstetrics & Gynecology and the American Society of Reproductive Medicine.
Dr. Akin is assisted by Emily Harding, PA-C, and by Nurse Practitioner Gretchen Palmer, WHNP-BC. He also renders expert medical witness opinions and is involved in many FDA Clinical Trials.
Dr. Akin and his wife Debi have three children (Amanda, Adam, and Abbey). His personal hobbies include drag racing, family fun, and water gardening (a talent for which he has received much notoriety).

Dr. Akin was very knowledgeable factually about my concern. However, perhaps due to my apt being at 4:00 (close to closing time) I feel my visit was rushed. I was cut off several times by the nurse when trying to explain my concerns. Additionally, I addressed several areas of concerns directly to him that I wanted examined, and he only addressed two during the exam. He did not give me clear follow up instructions for after the visit. I do believe Dr. Akin could be a great doctor, however I believe the 4:00pm patient deserves the same patience and courtesy as the 9:00AM patient.

Dr. Akin was my doctor for 3 years before getting pregnant. Appointments are always quick. He and his team have always been very helpful with questions and birth control refills. When I got pregnant I knew I was in good hands. I loved that I had the option of seeing him, or his PA's during my pregnancy. He let me have the type of delivery that I wanted, from going back & forth to be induced to not having an epidural! My delivery was perfect thanks to Dr. Akin and his staff!!!
